Do you listen to video game music?

I am a huge fan of both modern video game music and the stuff from 8-bit era, where people had only a few instruments and had to do wonders to make their compositions interesting. That resulted in an explosion of brilliant compositions, like for instance Castlevania or Mega Man soundtracks. I have a looooooooot to talk about this subject but for now I won't brag much, I just want to see if anyone shares this passion.

So, I'll start with some catchy tracks wink.gif

Duke Nukem Forever theme:

Castlevania - Bloody Tears (original):

Castlevania - Bloody Tears (remix):

And some Quake 2 soundtrack (I would put all of it because it's an awesome soundtrack but here's just 2 videos to get the general idea):

Of course, there are other obvious choices like Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy, but I'm trying to constantly explore underrated video game music from the past and share it to people smile.gif Sooo, if you have any ideas, feel free to join! wink.gif

This is my absolute favourite(both the game and the music).
It's also pretty easy to play it on the guitar

Nobuo Uematsu reigns supreme for me, my first exposure to music ever was Final Fantasy.

Wow people, amazing stuff here! I'm really glad I'm not the only one here enjoying video game music smile.gif

@MonkeyDAthos: I haven't heard that one, but it totally blew me away! I like the approach with solo mixed with 8-bit-ish melody. And I love the bridge and the epic build-up! Sounds AWESOME, thanks for sharing smile.gif

@Cristophe: Yes, my friend, Castlevania music rocks indeed biggrin.gif I just can't get enough of all the possible versions and remixes of every Castlevania song. It's really hard to choose the best one!

I will HAVE to make a guitar cover of a Castlevania song when I get the time, got too inspired by vertexguy, I guess smile.gif Here's a clip of him performing many Castlevania songs mixed in one big medley:

He also covers Duke Nukem, Contra, Bionic Commando any many more video game music.

@rhoads: Yes, Blizzard music is epic smile.gif I'm not a fan of WoW music because it's usually only ambiental but these ones you posted are great, especially the Starcraft one! wink.gif

@thefireball: I LOVE Bionic Commando theme! biggrin.gif The whole soundtrack is epic! And this guy did a really good job on covering smile.gif I also like Bionic Commando (Rearmed) OST because they took the 8-bit originals and repacked them in a completely new way! Here's an example:

Stage 8 from Bionic Commando:

Remixed theme (Power Plant):

@Ivan: Jeez, that was nostalgic smile.gif Haven't played that game but looks a lot like Super Mario Bros. Back then games were much simpler and they look awful compared to today's games, but most of them were much more fun to play... and they were a lot harder as well...

@TeoWulf: Yeah, that's The One biggrin.gif Although I am in that minority of people who prefer the Oblivion version because it has that epic feel, this one is probably one of the best VG tracks, and of course epic in its own way. smile.gif BTW, can't wait for 11.11.11... Skyrim!!! biggrin.gif

@Bogdan: Grim Fandango RULES! They just don't make games like that anymore. One of the best ever. Which reminds me of my favorite game ever, with some of the best soundtrack ever... Planescape Torment biggrin.gif

Enjoy:

Main theme:

Deionarra theme (my favorite - a variation of main theme):

Smoldering Corpse Bar - it is just magical.

and many more..... (like Quake 2 OST - the whole soundtrack is awesome)

I recommend to everyone to try Planescape Torment because it's one of the greatest games ever - even if you aren't into RPG's and adventures, you'll love this one because of the fantastic storyline, dialogue and emotional music. If nothing, at least download the OST, you won't regret it wink.gif

@Todd: Wow, this is fantastic! And it's not because it's a "girl playing guitar video", but because it really sounds good! I like the songwriting behind this one.

Alrighty, time for some 8-bit music for you:

Double Dragon Mission 1 theme - You HAD to hear it before smile.gif

Endless Stage from Mega Man 9 - good but frustrating because it's a frustrating level biggrin.gif

And here's my remix of that theme - done in Fruity Loops =)
