Hey GMC,

currently I am thinking about a new USB audio interface since my old one was really cheap and I am not able to create a decent sound with it. Does anyone have a good suggestion/experience with this? My budget is ~ 200€ (270 US$).

i am looking forward too, to an usb audio interface for iMac especially.

Apogee Line 6 Tascam ESI M -Audio there are so many of them what is good for private use and lasts a long time?

I have a toneport ( line 6 ux2 ) you can get it for about 150 dollars I think.

I bought a PreSonus AudioBox USB, I've had no complaints with it. It costs around $150 USD it works on both Mac and PC, I can vouch for that as I have ran it on both before.

There are lots of options around that range. The PRESONUS has a nice sound to it, as well as the apogee. If possible, try a few in this price range before making a decision. The line 6 stuff is a good value for money, but the preamp in it is not quite as nice as Apogee. This topic comes up quite often so a quick search of the forum should yield tons of results. As for recording in general...

GETTING STARTED WITH HOME RECORDING?

Here are a couple of links that will hopefully help here is my thread on FREE software for home recording. In the home setting, getting your guitar signal in to the computer is the crucial bit. You can get really good results using plugins/emulation etc. OF course, using nice microphones on really nice amps in a great room will be better. But until you work all that out, here's a place to start for free using software.

I will check this links and will go next week to city to try out some interfaces ,so far its possible . By now i sight Apogee stuff but will take some time to make a decision .

Unless you're recording a band, you don't need more than a few inputs for convenience ~ my Presonus burned out earlier in the month and I did a lot of research looking for a replacement and I almost bought this one.

I opted for the emu 0404 pcie instead, but only because I didn't need a microphone pre-amp and I wanted something with good thru-put (faster than USB/Firewire) since my computer is old and processor power occasionally caused drop-outs. It works like charm. Both have a good routing interface

Some great points! The scarlett is a great little box. A pretty new model tool

The emu is great if you are using a tower. If you are using a laptop, not the first choice as their
are no slots to fit the card in. So laptop or tower and the speed of your computer come in to play.

USB interfaces lean a bit more on the cpu as do firewire interfaces. But on a newish computer, usb/firewire
is usually just fine.

With mac i use Garageband and there the clean combo the rest i do with zoom settings sounds good to me.

I tested a few recordings over Garageband . To get the real video into my clip will be the next experience to me

After having tried various usb interfaces I finally found the apogee one and I am really satisfied with it. It's not that cheap but it is really worth the price, the quality is really very good and it comes with an internal microphone, too. I use it on my MacBook Pro, normally with GarageBand.

Zoom G3 is a good idea as it can be a live pedal board, as well as a recording interface. Handy! I use Garage band as well. It's very useful. You can create a new track with "live Instrument" instead of creating "Guitar" and it will bypass the ampifier emulation in Garage band. But you can do it either way really. Whatever sounds best.

Garage band comes with lots of great fx and loops. It's incredible how much is built in to it for an app the costs so little.

The AI sends whatever signal it receives directly to your DAW. Because you're not using a pre-amp, it will record the clean signal from your guitar. To apply the distortion, you have to add guitar rig to your recorded track, and that plugin will apply the effect to the output of your track (it will not change the audio file that was recorded).
