I never considered myself a very good heavy metal riffage player, due to the fact I was hardly using it in my playing. However, it's very important to practice your palm muting and riffing chops.

to me, being groovie is more important than a lot of other things, so, yes, I can say that i can play polirhythms, divide a 4/4 beat in unusual ways and things like that. I love riffing in general - can't always do it as spontaneously interesting as I would like to, but, with a little work 
it always comes out right!
