GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Need Some Inspiration

Posted by: Nick325 Feb 5 2009, 06:13 AM

hey guys been gone for a while. just need some advice. I haven't been playing too much guitar lately idk why but I seem to push it off or do other things first when guitar was all I did for a long time. any ideas on how to get back into to grove? I still love music and listen to it all the time so that's not the problem.

I dunno man, you just gotta find the inspiration for yourself.

for instance, tonight I went out to a bar, and there was live music. They sounded really great together, and even though all they played was flok/bluegrass kind of music, it was really inspiring. It made me wanna go learn that kind of stuff. Inspiration can come from all sorts and kinds of places.

I would just say that you should listen to your favorite bands and such, and imagine yourself playing their music live in front of a crowd. Thats what I do sometimes, and the thought is just awesome. I am not nearly capable of doing such things YET, but thinking about it gives me inspiration.

This happens to me every now and then smile.gif No good advice for this. When you hear something that you really like, take guitar and kill the beast smile.gif That will keep you going for some time.

learn some songs that you like or just play for fun for a while mate. You don't need to get into serious practicing right away. Just take your time and let yourself bond with the instrument.

Inspiration is something that comes and goes, believe it cannot be controlled. But definitely you should not force yourself to get inspired in any way, try to find a way to relax and enjoy life and it will return smile.gif

Try going to a local gig or watching a good concert on DVD..Those things always give me a boost of inspiration smile.gif

This is exactly what got me back into playing quite recently- instead of trying to jump back in to my 3 hour routine i just took things easy and chose just one lesson from gmc that i thought sounded cool. I sucked at first but within a few hours found myself playing just like before- just have fun with it instead of worrying about developing technique etc

I was trough few periods like that. 3-4 years ago, I almost completely stopped playing. Like, in 1-2 years I played 10-15 minuted daily. But, if you really like the music and guitar, it's gonna pull you back. Now, when I don't feel like playing, I don't. It can last for weeks, but naturally I always go back, because I love it!
