How Do You Make 2 Part Videos?

Would i video myself recording the 2 parts, then use a program to splice the audio and the 2 video sections together? Also any good free programs to do this? Cheers. I used this a couple of times (check my youtube channel), especially for my student instructor lessons. It's pretty easy to do.
