Alright, I'm an aspiring Neoclassical shred metalist, and when I made the suggestion in my "Customize my Strat" thread, scalloped frets were mentions as a must for neoclassical playing.
I'm curious as to the purpose of scalloped frets in reference to what they do for the guitarist
Thanks!

they give you better grip for the notes. helps with vibrato, bending, etc.
hehe, I have a new... I scalloped my frets in my JEM !!! and I'm so happy that makes my playing better, and I'm thinking in doing the same with my Ibanez 550
I'd like to have that on my 2550e but I'd never do it myself hehe.
So would you suggest a full neck scallop or just, say, frets 12 to 21?
Also I hear a lot about players scalloping their own necks. How does one go about doing that? A good bit of sophisticated equipment?
Thanks!

yes its probly better to do the top frets before u do the whole neck and my not like it

nah i would never do that
for a lilbit more control? nah
toomany disadvantages for my taste
theres no fret drag.. i hate when my fingers drag along the fretboard while bending.. or sometimes my nails will hit the fretboard.. n that always sucks
i would like to have scalloped frets but i dare not do it myself and i dont know the cost...
its not that hard u just have to take your time
i did it and i thought i wouldve mest mine up
i done frets 17-24 with a 1/4" round file, a 1/2" round file, lots of different grades of sandpaper and alo of patients.
worked out pretty well, and aslong as you have patients, its easy
