GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ First Funk Song

Posted by: ElHombre Feb 24 2012, 02:54 PM

Hi guys

while on vacation I got a melody in my head that I actually remebered for once.
I recorded myself singing it + the rythm I came up with.

Well I have never really done a song in this style.
So It would be great if someone could help me. An instructor or gmc member who knows this style!

I would need some help with chords that should be used, I guess standard minor/major chords wont do the trick.
Also what scales are commonly used in this style?

Well this questions could be answered in this thread.

But I would like some help and guidance trough out the song so to speak. If an instructor wants to help me maybe it could be a part of the mentor program.
I will probably record my ideas today

That's a chords that Alex show you .Of course there are many more, in several variations. Major and Minor will work, and also natural minor or minor pentatonic scale. Funk is more rhythmic feeling and groove, and needs to pay more attention on it than to the chords that you'll play.
Check out this lesson about funky chords and groove..

Thank you!
I dont know if you can call it 100 % funk.
But the basic chord idea had a kind of nice groove but I had to change the idea a bit

Also I will play in the Key of A, using a A minor scale.
I think I will use three chords for the beginning progression, which ones would you reccomend?

EDIT: sorry, I am using A mixolydian of course biggrin.gif
