GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Ok To Play Bass Through Guitar Amp?

Posted by: bluelineman Jan 14 2012, 09:57 PM

Is it ok to play bass through a guitar amp? Not loud or anything, just home practice kinda stuff.

Said amp is Crate FXT120 with 2-12" speakers.

Yes - you could. Just don't crank it up too much since guitar speakers are not meant for bass guitar frequencies. I played guitar yesterday on bass amp so it works other way around too. Though you get very bassy low strings sound smile.gif

Yeah you definitely can! If you will turn it too loud your speaker will wear off faster on you might get buzz.
I would just turn down mid and high and turn bass up and you should be fine!

Thanks guys. If I end up getting a bass, I would def get a cheap bass amp to avoid killing my guitar amp. I just wanted to make sure it would be ok for a short time.

It's my pleasure!

Sure, it's possible! smile.gif Depending on the amp, you'll have more or less bass, but the sound will be there smile.gif Back in the old days, bass and guitar used same amps.

My brother did this today! He used my marshall 8080 amp to connect his bass for a Skype Bass Class and it worked... but I suffered a bit! tongue.gif
