Hey! I'm new here! Registred 1 hour ago so x)
Anyway I was wondering if someone would take a look at my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ThrashRiffs09?feature=mhee and give me response There are a few mistakes I am aware of though ... the recording itself is pretty bad, as I use my amp Line 6 Spider Jam and record things directly on the amp ans transfer it over to the computer Now as I look back I think I failed to play in the styles of the bands I was aiming for :/ First of all maybe because of lack of creativity. I only know the blues scale, pentatonic scale, power chords and the basic chords like A,C,D,G and so on. If you wait there is a new vid coming up of my attempt in playing in the style of Arch Enemy x) Off topic: Can you have private video chats with instructors? Also anyone have any tips for recording? Because in my opinion it sucks! xD Anyway thanks! This post has been edited by Zezima940: Jul 26 2011, 09:45 PM |

Sounds pretty cool. The tone is not my favorite, but that's just preference. About chats, if you and the instructor has Skype you might could set up a time.

I'll be straight up and honest with you, I kinda agree with your opinion (a few mistakes but no problems) - it's a great start.
Your 'Thrash Metal Original Riffs' is sweet playing, I really enjoyed that, you show some good timing and skills. The 'Gothenburg Melodeath Riffs 1+2' however sound just a little bit slapped together but you still have some really good pieces, you just need to link it smoother together. Work on those jumps and transitions. If your keen on Speed/Thrash Metal, there's two ways most bands tend to follow: 1) Lean more towards punk rock, displaying raw aggression without melody (pure thrash). 2) Bend that sound with a more straight-ahead heavy metal (modern metal thrash). << recommended You add a mix of: Odd syncopations Tempo changes Shifting time signutures Ear twisting dissonances Double time drum beat Heavy distortion Take the listener on a wild ride normally with a volient theme. The hard part is keeping a chucky bass rhythm, which you seem to be already doing quite well, just clean it up a bit and add some quick, snappy licks in between to keep it interesting. Add some padding with the fretboard hand fingers to drive a cleaner sense of timing into chaos. The book "Troy Stetina - Speed and Thrash Metal Guitar Method" might help you alot on your path and I'm sure there's a lot of info on GMC to aid you. The instructors here are also really helpful! All the best, thrash on! "Death/ Melodic Death Metal Riffs or unfinished song" is really coming together nicely! Hey Zezima, great to have you here at GMC and thanks for coming to the video chat last night
It's really cool that you're interested in writing your own metal riffs. Allowing your self to be influenced by your fave bands is a must.. you then need to take what they've given you and make it your own. In terms of thinking of new ways to play riffs, try some of Lale's lessons. They are super tight and may give you some extra ideas to inject some cutting thrash riffs https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Bens-Land-Of-Legato/ Lian has tons of metal lessons, different levels of difficulty and different genres - they might spark some new creative ideas for you to explore https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/instructor/Lian-Gerbino/ Of course, our amazing Cosmin here has some of his own metal based lessons.. he's too polite to post them here himself so I will do it for him. His interest in modern metal styles may also present different apporaches to you https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/instructor/Cosmin-Lupu/ That's just a few.. there's tons more hidden gems on this site. The search bar is your friend !! |

I like the Arch Enemy Style Riffing. It's cool that you are doing this videos! A little comment about mixing.. the snare is a bit loud and the guitar a bit soft... consider it for future mixes.
