Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Picking Hand Basics by Ben Higgins

Guess who is back with another take? Joke aside, I practiced along a drum track and tapping my foot consistently to internalise the timing. For some reason I get distracted by the backing track. So I avoided it for some time to isolate the problem. Let see if it is any good...

Hi Rhida, this is the best take yet. You've definitely improved your timing although you still have more work to do.

There are quite a few places where you're still either ahead or the timing is shaky. For example, you might play the downstroke exactly on the beat but the upstroke might come back too early and then throw your picking out.

But it is going in the right direction.

Just keep going, it will take time.. but as long as you're working at it, it will improve !

Ahoy mate!

Ben's right, this take is definitely the best one so far and all you need to do, is keep going in this direction a bit more and be patient and focused.

There are some moments in the 16th notes section where you don't play all the notes, but the triplets section for instance, sounds pretty good!

Work some more with the original recording trying to focus on becoming more and more natural with the feel of the piece - it's all about timing and feel now. Also, please focus on not missing any note.

Keep rocking!

Cosmin

Now we are talking!! smile.gif

This lesson is so close to be perfect, and the difference compared with the previous take is very notorious! So now you are on the right track with your alternate picking and timing. The problems appear a bit only when you play 16th notes so focus on it for some days to master the whole lesson. Isolate the rhythm, practice it over a metronome and over the backing. And also, practice going from other rhythms to 16th notes, because maybe the problem is the connection...

Keep on the great job!! smile.gif
