Jan 13 2012, 05:48 PM	GMC:er Posts: 2 Joined: 10-January 12	Hello all, I just joined GMC last week, and this is my first post on the forums. I have been playing guitar on and off for about 11 years. My main guitar is a Dean Evo. I also have a Dean ML Shadow, for when I need the whammy bar. My favorite bands are Pantera, Lamb of God, and In Flames. My guitar skills are somewhere around intermediate. I would really like to improve my lead guitar skills. I was drawn to this site, because this is the first site that I saw Pantera solo lessons that looked and sounded correct. I am a little confused about which direction I should go when it comes to lessons. I know that my sweep picking is horrible and I have not memorized any scales. I would say I am a good rhythm guitar player and I dont typically have trouble with playing through most songs, until I get to the lead or solo. What direction do you think I should take? What do you want to really do, not what you think you should be doing but what you really want to be doing ? So, for example, if you think you should be learning scales but you really want to be learning sweeping, then I say go for it and learn some sweeping. Guitar playing should be fun and enjoyable for you, before anything else.. keeping the enjoyment factor is the key to staying motivated. Maybe pick 2 or 3 areas of lead guitar that you want to improve at and maybe dedicate sections of your practice time to each area. Or you can spend 3 days in a row on one area, the next 3 on one etc. I vary my personal practice approach to however I'm feeling at the time. Welcome to GMC! I would suggest you to learn as many styles as you can it will give you more options when you are improvising! Also you should try to master scales so when you are playing you don't think about scales and can concentrate on melodies GMC is a great website that you can find a lot of different lessons that will fit your needs and if you have any questions you can just ask! If you didn't do scale practice, perhaps you can do it systematically with this lesson? We are here to help you, and there are pentatonic and other scale courses/lessons. Let us know what you need.
