Just found this -
Satch plays SWTA on a cheap knockoff Strat and a practice amp - makes you think about whether that next new expensive piece of your rig is worth it -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

This is so true. I was many times surprised when musicians approached me after gigs and asked about my bass guitar (which was way back then a really cheap and not that good 150$ jazz bass copy). They just couldn't believe my answer. Also, I have noticed some musicians that play on really good gear but have a bad tone. Its impossible when you think about the quality/price tag of that gear. Over the years I found that "knowing what sounds good" is an art on its own. That is the ultimate question of "the tone" I guess. Some people have it - some don't. Learning about your gear helps a lot to achieve that tone you are looking for. Yet again - whenever I played on different setups (amps, stages, PA systems), I still sounded like me Main sound comes from the man + guitar as first links. Other stuff doesn't matter that much I guess (if you know how to set it up to convey your "main tone").

this is a lesson in....pretty much how to be a great guitar player...but I would say his timing! it's so great, he's so locked in with the backing track which is way low in the back, amazing!

Satch is great man And this song is too legendary, so it sounds awesome, but I gotta say, the sound in the video isn't that great, when I compared it to this:
It's the overall impression, gear looks intimidating on the stage, and if a player knows how to use it to it's own advantage - then it's a 100% effect. Satch is a legend, they made that gear specifically for him, what else is there to say! I've seen hundreds of examples where good gear isn't being put into good use, but what can you do, some people will never learn Keep the setup as simple and as possible, the decent as it gets to do what you want with it - my rule -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE

Nice video Of course we all rather have satch's fingers than the best guitar in the world (at least I do). Having said that, tone on that video is not very good (obviously).

Its always funny when you see someone who has loads of expensive high end gear, and don't bother to practice and they can't play. I went to school with guys like this and they ended up dropping out. I think you should learn to play first before you invest in any real gear. Now that I know what I'm doing, I like having a nice sounding guitar that plays nice. My main guitar is a $179 ibanez! Best piece o cr@p I've bought to date. Says nothing about my ability to play it! But I took the cheap route for sure until I earn the next step-up! -------------------- The more I practice, the more I wish I had time to practice!

This is great. Reminds of when I was learning to golf and signed up for lessons with a local Pro. He asked me to hit some balls with my cheap knock off driver so he could judge my ability. I shanked a few balls and then topped one, embarrassed I turned to him and yelled..these clubs SUCK!! He looked at me and said.."Hmmmm..Really? let me see it". He took my driver and cracked a 300 yard drive right down the center of the fairway. He then handed the driver back to me with a wry smile and said... "seems okay to me" Gary That was a memorable experience no doubt. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
