Hey GMC. What's the craziest thing you've done to get enough money to buy a piece of music gear that you just "had to have"?

I've gone on eBay selling sprees, scavenging through my closets and auctioning anything I could find to buy a pedal before.

Your turn.. biggrin.gif

Hmm lets see. The weirdest, or most depserpate I should say, Is probably when I sold my entire bed to help get money for a guitar. Had to sleep on blankets and pillows for 2 weeks on hardwood floors untill I got a small fouton, but it was worth it! laugh.gif

I virtually starved for 6 months to buy my first JEM. Didn't spend money on anything, ate free food, didn't give money at home, walked, slept in office instead of having to travel, etc... wink.gif

Well, it's not that crazy but I started a youtube channel and began doing short video lessons. I answered every question/comment and friended everyone I could, spent more and more time on the lessons/videos, and generally promoted it by word of mouth and sweat of brow for two years straight until I had 3,000 subscribers and over a million views. At that point, I went looking for sponsors and actually found a few smile.gif I now am endorsed by Minarik Guitar, Fretlight Guitars, and EMG pickups. They all have been great about sending me cool free gear/guitars/pickups etc. I believe in each of these vendors which is why I approached them so I speak well of them whenever I get the chance. I wanted to find a way to get new gear that involved playing guitar more and "working" less. This was how I worked it out. smile.gif

I"m sure there is an endorsement deal in your future. Just keep at your playing and start sharing it with others as well. I did it through youtube but I started doing guitar videos back when youtube first started and there weren't many other folks doing them. Now there are just TONS of folks making them so it's a bit harder to break through but it's not impossible. Make vids that help people, vids that would have helped you when you first started. Answer every question, reply to every email, friend everyone that stops by and before you know it, you be a big hit and can use the eyeballs to attract some sponsors. Go for it!

This is very insight full and great example of youtube power. Also its the best way to go about getting endorsed.

I have been selling some stuff I didn't need from home in order to get some new gear but nothing radical smile.gif

Well, I never did anything crazy, I just budgeted really tight to get what I needed. But that was back when I was homeschooled, and my job was only a mile away. It's harder to do that since my job and college is a half an hour away now.

Hm. Never did anything special. Not being the most social person in the world (i'd rather play music), I don't spend too much money. smile.gif But specific things that I did do for money for gear... I sold my distortion pedal with an autograph laugh.gif

Completely agree,

I wish we could all just dedicate ourselves to creation, or even rotate jobs, I wouldn't mind driving a cab for one day, taking the mail another, give ideas for education another, cultivating plants another, recording songs another, smile.gif

When I needed the money for new gear, I usually sold the old one.. It's nothing crazy, but I would definitely like to keep all the gear I get. Unfortunately that is not always possible..
