I decided I just couldnt live without a strat after all! I tried a few guitars the other day including a G&L S-500 and an awesome USA market only thinskin 58 replica strat (Very nice!)
But the one i liked the best was the Eric Johnson signature model, quite expensive for a strat but the combination of top quality craftmanship and materials with some nice features sold me, so ive ordered one and it should be here tues/wed next week.
Main differences from a standard:

Select 2 piece alder body
12 inch radius neck (standard strats are 9.5, vintage is 7.5, this is more like my Les Paul, great for bends!)
quartersawn maple neck A grade
custom wound pick ups
No backplate trem cover
vintage 5 spring trem
Nitro "thin skin" finish
altered headstcok, eliminating string trees
Staggered tuners
altered tone control (Controls the bridge pup rather than the middle, why dont all strats have his??)

I couldnt beleive this wasnt a custom shop guitar, they feel amazingly well made for a factory finish, of course you need to live with a guitar to really know if you like it!

I might do a video review of it and post it up too.

anyway this is the finish I ordered.

Good choice!, best thing about this strat is the neck, it's just beautiful maple wood, better than regular strats. It's also available in red, both are nice.

Well it came today, and i got quite a shock, the scratchplate was sitting off the body in one place, the high E string wont stay in the nut and there was a definite dent in the lacquer on the back of the neck at the first fret, I really thought they had sold me a duffer!
I took it to my luthier though who said it was nothing to worry about and that if I buy vintage style guitars, expect vintage style problems and that he could sort out the niggles no problem. The shop were quite good and offered a full refund etc but I like it and am keeping it but I'll get some store discount of them tomorrow ph34r.gif

I'll try and post some sound clips soon!!

First of all congrats!! smile.gif

Well, this was definitely not the way I got mine! Mine was good out of the box, with no problems like you mentioned at all. Nevertheless these things can be sorted I guess indeed without too much trouble.

If you have any questions down the road, just give me a PM as I tried out really every single screw in either direction on this guitar prior to finding my ideal sound (which is not how it came out of the box smile.gif).
