Hi guys,

I was away from home this weekend. And nothing much to do.... I was playing on my old electric guitar (since it's the only guitar I have with me at the moment). I founded that the guitar played really great and that I love the feeling it gaves me when I vibrato.

Just did a whole tone bend on my high e-string and SCHDOIIINNNGGGG !!!! .. I suddenly remembered why I bought another guitar at that time. The licensed Floyd Rose as always been a big deception for me with that guitar. I am not really using the diving/pulling option that much because my strings are popping out from the bridge all the time. I know how to change a string even some luthier has change some strings on it and it keeps popping out.

Is there anyone of you who have some tips on making the strings in the bridge more solid. It could be a great guitar if the Floyd Rose was a bit better. I have taught about changing the bridge but I am not sure all the money invovled would be a great deal.

Beside my guitar is a ESP LTD F-200 (this precise model is now discontinuated I think). I would have love to learn the new Lesson on phrasing with the whammy bar but I can't even bend a whole tone witout the string popping out.

I hope someone on this site has a trick to block the string in the bridge.

Thanks !!!

Sorry to say this but if a luthier (working on the assumption that he's at least half-decent) has restrung it and it's still popping out then it sounds like you have a broken floyd. I don't see why the bolts wouldn't be keeping the strings fastened at the bridge unless something was broken.

My worry is that the bolt was tightened too much, causing the damage.

Did you ask the luthier specifically about it?

Make sure the string is deep enough down, and placed so that it will be tightened (for example if there is a mark from the string that it easily can fall into, and get out of, don't put it there), and tighten it until the screw is completely stuck. Play for a bit (without bending), and in an hour or so, check the screw again. You can see if the problem is the screw untightening itself, or if the string will somehow manage to pull itself out. Unless of course, the problem happents immediately after putting on new strings.

Does it happen to all the strings, or just some specific ones?
How does the blocks that tighten it look?

Hope you solve it, good luck smile.gif

I hope not but I have never used an allen key with those screws, always a screwdriver so I was sure to not overtighten.

Thanks for the input Sollesness, lots of advice in there.

As for the luthier I would love to find a new good one. My Luthier was pretty old and he unfortunately died a few months ago.

I went to see a new one but he was bad, I won't go see him anymore. I have also called lots of luthier in Montreal but they are all too busy and I have to leave them my guitar for at leats 3 weeks, can't wait that long. Also I want a luthier that can show me what he does on my guitar and all the one I called hadn't the time to show it to me.

In my Foyd Rose they don't seem to have any place where to put the strings specifically, and it is usually the 3 thinest strings that pop off. For now I have found a temporary solution that works. I used a new e-string and instead of cutting all the end of the string I cut only the ball and kept the extra wound string at the end (I hope this is clear). For now it seems to work since I have been able to do alot of 2 whole step bends.

I hope this is a correct way to fix it and I will see how much time it is going to work...

Beside any extra tips or comments about my solution are more then welcome wink.gif

So if you've got extra, loose string inserted into the floyd and it all seems fine, perhaps the strings were being cut too short in the first place? I don't see how a coiled (if that) string would withstand the pull from the other end, it has to be gripping properly now.

Also, you said the thicker strings weren't popping out; their structure probably prevented slippage.

I have always that it's the size of the strings that make it more solid. I'll see if I like it that way....

One thing is sure... I should never bought something with a Licensed Floyd Rose. But I was young at that time and absolutely wanted to do dive bomb dry.gif

For now it looks alright I have even played a bit with the whammy bar and it's working well.

Sounds good man! I reckon you've solved it. Don't go back to that luthier again tongue.gif

I have had tthree licensed F. Rose's and i have never been let down , I don't think that is your problem
like sollesnes said I think you just need to find the sweet spot and the right amount to tighten it
if not it might need a new saddle ,but that would need expertise

Also, be careful when tightening the posts when you put a new string in. If you don't tighten enough, the string will pop out, if you tighten too much, you will strip the screw housing and then you won't be able to tighten it correctly. It's a fairly delicate system that can easily be wrecked if you aren't careful.
