So, I bought this CI 1 USB interface by steinberg a week ago, and have been struggling with it since.
It came with two programs SEQUEL and WAVELAB, first of all I don't know anything about mastering or editing.

I've looked every freaking tutorial there is on the World wide web, but I got nothing. I also downloaded GTR solo from waves (free for a year),
to use as a VST, but when I try to use it with wavelab it doesn't make a sound, wavelab finds all the plugins just fine and the GTR works as a standalone, although the sound is awful, like it is on when I tried SEQUEL. The Guitar sounds distorted all teh time there's a huge buzzing going on the background and the sound is crackilng all the time...

And top of that I lost the bloody receipt, so I can't return this THING to the store, now can I... Although I think I should throw it in the trash where it belongs.
Never trust a storekeep, I should go there and suckerpunch that dude.

So if anyone could offer any help, it would be much appreciated

If you really dont want it, you can explain that you lost the recipt to the store. Most instrument stores keep receipts digitally for a long while

Before you give up on it, take it back to the store and see if they can hook it up and make it sound decent. It could be a configuration issue, or a broken unit, etc. I'm sure they will want to make it right.

Hmm try installing the Reaper recording software and recording just the dry guitar signal (clean).

I'm sure there is a way to configure the device but I wouldn't recommend it as a interface of choose since there are much more popular and easier to use ones out there.

Also, you should be able to return it to the store, guarantee is tied to the serial number.

Check cables and distance from objects like sub woofer and monitor, etc, that could create noise interference.

Are you using unbalanced jack cables? Maybe try a balanced cable (A balanced jack should have Tip, Ring and a sleeve).

That is a good piece of hardware, and my advice is to try to be patient, specially if you are just starting with audio production.

Before you begin, you should check what DAW software you want to use. Sequel and Wavelab are cool, but I think you will find Reaper or Cubase much more pleasant to work with. I think your interface is integrated into Cubase, so I strongly advise that you install and try Cubase. There is Cubase LE version which is not that expensive, and it offers most of functionality that you can find in full version.

Regarding software modellers, GTR is not a great way to start. I recommend Peavey ReValver MKIII, Guitar Rig 4 or Amplitube (any version is cool).

As it turns out they can't take it back to the store cause I've already used the programs and registered it, but
I've made some progress from last time so no reason to give up just yet

I think I'm going to stick with these programs for now, beacuse I don't have any money
And I do believe that the interface is intergrated to these programs also since they came with it, not sure tho.

Now
I have a question

Why is it that the guitar sounds better when you play the track you just recorded, than if you are recording the track

Check if monitoring is on in the DAW. Also check if you are mixing the raw signal with the processed signal in your audio card.

Now, how do I do that? sry I'm new to this

Also sound is poppin' and crackling alot, what to do?

You should spend some time with the manual of your audio interface. Try to understand how your hardware and software works. It will be the best way for you to learn.

The crackling and popping is probably due to low buffer value. I'm not sure how to explain this to you, but you will find settings for it in your software. If you tell me your setup at the moment, perhaps we can go step by step.
