Hey guys! As you can see I'm creating an important series of lessons based on the topic "German Power Metal Bands". I covered Helloween, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray and there are many more on the way. There is a guy that asked for doing something similar with bands from Finland and Sweden. If I think in Sweden, the first thing that comes to mind is Swedish Melodic Death Metal... not power metal but maybe I'm wrong...

Do you think that there are enough power metal bands from there (or maybe other country) to create some cool series? What countries? What bands?

I listened to both songs! Thanks for the links! The first one sound closer to Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica, the second one is more like Helloween. I should check more songs to understand more what things difference them.

I think Hammerfall have a certain style that I will always recognize.
I think it's a good idea to focus on Sweden next biggrin.gif Though you're not finished with german bands, there are loads more (as you know) biggrin.gif

Well, how about

MELODIC DEATH METAL - SWEDEN
*In Flames
*At The Gates
*Dark Tranquility

DEATH METAL - FLORIDA (U.S)
*DEATH
*ENTOMBED
*ATHEIST

THRASH - CALIFORNIA (U.S.)
*Slayer
*Megadeth
*Metallica
*Exodus

Those are out of order in terms of influence/evolution, but more focused on regionality of a given "scene" / "sound" which is NOT to say every band on that last can't be called something else, or even FROM somewhere else!

Gabe,
There are definitely a lot of catagories of metal to explore, but I hope you stick to power metal for a while. The 1st 3 lessons were really good and showcase German power metal very well. My personal favorite power metal bands (so far) are Startovarius, Sonata Arctica, and Hammerfall, which is why I mentioned them (how this whole thread got started!). But I'm still a novice when it comes to this genre. I had never heard of Axenstar and Insania before, but those two vidoes that were posted were GREAT! I will have to listen to some more of their stuff. I'm sure there are many great power metal bands I still haven't heard yet, but I love this genre and really hope you expand the power metal series beyond German bands and just call it "Power Metal...The Series!". Not important where the bands are from, the music is great and you have a talent for capturing the individual styles of these bands in your lessons.

However you decide to keep the series going, I'll be there to practice the lessons!!

Rock on,

Jim

I still don't believe it. I maintain that the only German bands are Scorpions and Rammstein, there can't be others... ohmy.gif
