Hey Pavel I had two or three questions.

First off, how do you feel about power chords when you don't use your index and pinky? I do them with my index and ring finger so my pinky can be used for a quick switch. (Dave Mustaine calls it the Spider I think). Do you think that is a good way of playing them?

Second, how do I choose the scale I use in my songs? For example, how do band's like metallica choose a scale for a song? Is it based off the first note they play?

Last, could you give me some tips on how to come up with some very creative speed riffs? For example, look at Poison was the Cure by Megadeth or Holy Wars.....The Punishment Due.

Thanks for help

Hey man!

Powerchords - if i need my pinky for some extended shapes than i use all 4 fingers to play powerchords - middle finger included smile.gif Barring is not a thing i would suggest.

When you write a song you think in a tonality or a "key" and that's where the scale come from. So if you are writing a song in D-minor than some basic scales you can use are D-minor scale and it's relative major key - which is F-Major and you can also use D-harmonic minor. So those are 3 basic scales to use over a D-minor key.

Check out my Speedriffing lessons - should give you some ideas on that subject smile.gif
