GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ What Band/player Isn't Covered At Gmc?

Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Feb 8 2012, 03:42 PM

Hey guys! As you know I use to work a lot doing "in the style of..." lessons so this thread is to say what bands or guitar players aren't covered here and you think that we should do it.... do you have any one in mind?
I'm also working on series based on specific styles and genres so you can also say what styles you would like to see covered... smile.gif

Good idea Gabriel. smile.gif

I'll say it again: Ritchie Blackmore biggrin.gif There's only one "in style of" Blackmore lesson on GMC, but honestly, that one isn't Ritchie at all.

I would love some more Jon Schaffer/Iced Earth style lessons!

This one is the closest I could find, maybe I missed some, i dunno...: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Heavy-Metal-Shuffle/

Iced Earth is my favorite band!

I used to listen to them so I could work on something! Also checkhttp://www.guitarmasterclass.net/instructor/Lian-Gerbino/ metal lessons, there you will find many rhythm metal lessons that sound like some of the riffs of Iced Earth.

Posted by: Saddlefall Feb 8 2012, 04:24 PM

It would be awesome to have some riff king inspired lessons here on gmc, for sure!

edit:

Well I think they´re not very known outside Latin America but... Soda Stereo is one of my favorite bands!!
It's a shame what happened to Gustavo Cerati... I really like his music!

Soda Stereo is personally one of the best bands in Latin America. It would be awesome if there is a lesson in the style of Gustavo Cerati.

Maybe a bit 'poppy' for most members on here but I love Graham Coxon's (Blur) style. And Johnny Marr of The Smiths.

Ok how about Brian Sezter!

And in Aussie Chris Cheney is rated as one of the best guitar players - "The Living End" This would go well in your Punk series.
Cheney's main influences - AC/DC and Brian Sezter.

The song White noise is a fun song to play.

Posted by: derper Feb 9 2012, 07:10 PM

I second the "Brian Setzer" vote.

Also I would mention....

-Jerry Reed
-Albert Lee
-Eric Krasno (from "Soulive")
-Red Hot Chili Peppers (more specifically, John Frusciante from "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", OR Dave Navarro from "One Hot Minute")
-Frank Zappa

Personally, I would LOVE to see the solo from Vince Gill's "Oklahoma Borderline" as a lesson!!

There's a few of my ideas for now.

Posted by: Sinisa Cekic Feb 9 2012, 10:05 PM

@Jerry Reed,Albert Lee !! Great suggestion, we will arrange something soon wink.gif

Posted by: BlackViper Feb 9 2012, 10:27 PM

I would love to see a lesson covering the style of early Annihilator/Jeff Waters. That guy can riff. Early Testament would be awesme too. The only Testament lesson I saw was based around "The Ritual", which is a great album, but the faster stuff will always be the best.

Posted by: llibach Feb 9 2012, 10:37 PM

How about something in the style of mathcore bands like Dillenger Escape Plan, Botch or Converge. smile.gif

Hi man! thanks for the request! I like Annihilator! I could work on something... which are your favourite songs from them?

I noted that this is your first post here so welcome to the forum! wink.gif

Haha Dillinger Escape Plan biggrin.gif that would be something pretty interesting to cover tongue.gif those guys need a serious dose of insanity in order to come up with that music!

Posted by: Zeventh Feb 10 2012, 11:21 AM

As Dinaga mentioned in his post, I would so love to see more in the style of Ritchie Blackmoore!!
A really great cover would be the song Lazy by Deep Purple from Machine Head(album), an extremely cool song, one of my favourites imo.
loads of good solo licks, rhytm sections and so on, fits under Intermediate/advanced difficulty.

I would also recommend checking the live version of that song too, for instance the one from the live album Made In Japan biggrin.gif

I think Lazy would be a very attractive lesson among this community

I always loved the Never, Neverland album. Not a single bad track on that album! But the Alison Hell record is so amazing too! Overall, I'd say my 5 favorite songs by them would be Wicked Mystic, The Fun Palace, Road To Ruin, Imperiled Eyes, and Word Salad. So hard to choose though, they just have so much good stuff. And thank you! It's great to be here!

I think a lesson about Machine head would be great, Robb Flynn is doing a great job and on his first records his trademark were those overtones (don´t know if this is the right englisch word for this technic) , check out "Davidian" for example, if you hear it you will know what I mean.

I forgot about one very important potential lesson....

QUEEN/BRIAN MAY!!! Might as well just transcribe and do a lesson on an actual solo if possible, as opposed to "in the style of". Brian does have a killer style, but it's more about learning those classic licks!!

Sorry, heard some queen on the radio and immediately thought...."I need to learn that!!"

So many influences, and so little time!!

So many great suggestions!
From the already mentioned bands, The Cure and Deep Purple would be really awesome.
Great to hear that a Deftones lesson is in the making, Cosmin smile.gif
I'd also love to see a lesson in the style of The Hives, since you are covering indie rock anyway at the moment, Gabriel smile.gif

I think we could use more lessons in the style of german bands...I volunteer to work on those laugh.gif Request are welcome wink.gif

And a lesson on the style "Psychobilly" would be nice...wink.gif

Posted by: Cosmin Lupu Feb 16 2012, 09:41 AM

I am currently working on an Andy Timmons style lesson, a John Mayer style lesson and a Deftones style tongue.gif and the ones coming up next month are ready, a nice little spicy solo and a HUGE chugging riff meant to tear down your house walls tongue.gif

I recently did a "Queen style" lesson, but in contrast to pre-existing solo lessons, this time the emphasis is on BM riffing. smile.gif

Alex Skolnicks lead work in the early Testament records! Legacy... The new order... Or a Testament riff lesson on those early albums as well. Would be really cool!

I'm thinking Ben is the man for the job??? But whoever is up for it... smile.gif

One for Gabriel and maybe as part of his Indie series, because how can you have an Indie series without Johnny Marr of the Smiths, so much great rhythm work to be analysed it may take a few lessons!
