Hey Andrew -

I'm wondering something about bass traps. If I am trying to acoustically treat a wall, how far down should I place the sound absorbers (foam absorbers glued to the wall)? what I mean is, is there a minnimum distance from the floor where they (flat wall absorders) might not be effective anymore and I would use bass traps instead? do bass traps go on the floor in corners or would they be better served in the corners of the ceiling? Any references or good websites that you have found that I can check out? - hope this makes sense.

Hi Jeff,

Sorry it took me so long to see this ...

Bass traps are about frequencies, not positioning so much - you would use bass traps if you have problems at low frequencies and want to even the response of your room out. The foam panels do a different job - they prevent reflections, usually of the higher frequencies.

By far the best resource I have found to learn about this is Sound on Sound magazine - check out their website, you can subscribe to the magazine and also search their older articles - there is a lot of knowledge to be found there!

Thanks for the reply's. Looks like great info. I definitely need to do something about my room because the sound bounces everywhere.
