Hey guys so as promised here are all the modes from a major scale
We are in the key of G so when we will harmonize the scale we will get this chords:
G Major - A minor - B minor - C major - D major - E minor - F# Diminished The first mode is Locrian it starts in the second position: G major scale (Ionian mode) A DorianB Phrygian C lydianD MixolydianE Aeolian It's important to learn those modes in every position and every key! Also we were talking about improvising and landing on chord tones. It's a good technique to learn and it will help you learn the fretboard and bring your improvisation skills to the next level!
To find chord tones you need to look at the chord structure and find Third and Seventh (those are the most important chord tones because they give a chord color)
So if we will look at G major7 chord we will find
G - B - D - F#B and F# are the main chord tones but you can use any of four So how to practice this technique?
I have a pretty cool exercise!!!!
You can use a backing track or just write some chords down and play without.
Build each chord find the most important chord tones and play them through the neck note buy note
For example if we have a G major chord we will be playing only third and nothing else
After we will continue with V and VII
