Dimebag - Weird Legato

Ok guys check out 3:17 in this video:



His index finger never moves, what exactly is going on here? Whatever this technique is, it's huge in Dimes playing and I cannot seem to replicate it...

Does anyone know what's going on here? Just a bunch of hammer ons and pull offs maybe?

I think its legato but he keeps his index finger anchored as much as possible so he can play faster.

Yup, he does the same thing on the solo of Walk..

Alot of guitarists use this "Anchor" technique to make some licks easier, guys like Zakk Wylde, Slash, the guitarists from Lynyrd Skynard use it alot on that monster jam of Freebird.

All you do is just anchor you'r index finger, and when you move to a lower string, just lift you'r finger a bit from the higher strings so it mutes them.
