GMC VIDEO CHAT LESSON #12 – INSIDE & OUTSIDE PICKING
Hi guys! Today we will talk about the two different ways to cross strings. Let’s play the following two exercises to notice the difference between them. Inside___Outside.gp5 ( 1.85K ) Number of downloads: 346 Inside___Outside.pdf ( 41.06K ) Number of downloads: 593 In the first one, I start with a downstroke in the higher string and play the lower adjacent string with an upstroke. This type of picking has that the name of inside picking because the motion is from in-between the strings. Compare it with the second exercises in which I cross the strings from the outside. Practicing this two motions could help a lot to improve your Alternate Picking technique and will expand the limits of your picking technique. However you should know that crossing between with inside picking feels different when most of the notes are played on a higher string than when most are played on a lower strings. That’s why we will work on this 5 patterns that cover the most used possibilities. Here you can download the patterns: Exercises_Lesson_12.gp5 ( 3.16K ) Number of downloads: 275 Exercises_Lesson_12.pdf ( 66.88K ) Number of downloads: 732 Then we will apply the pattern to the pentatonic scale shape.
