Hey mate - this here is (yes, you guessed it biggrin.gif) your thread in which we shall be dealing with djent and rhythmic ideas!

Djent is all about the tone, tuning and interpretation - you can play djent using any scale you want actually smile.gif

I wanted to ask if you can show me anything you have recorded in this rhythmical direction smile.gif It doesn't have to be djent but it should have rhythm elements wink.gif

Let's rock!

Cosmin

This is a collection of riffs that I've recording to show you how I currently riff. The last riff is a Djent breakdown (that's what I inteded it to be) and the rest is mostly melodic, Idk if this is good enough, but here it is, it's in Drop A#... But before we do anything else, can you help me set up the perfect Djent tone. Here's a list of my current gear until I get the Line 6 POD HD Pro..i know there's Djent presets around for them...but here's my gear.

*I hope this help biggrin.gif

Good morning mate smile.gif

Well, I don't know your gear unfortunately, but what I can tell you is that the tone which I hear now is pretty ok.

One thing I like to do, is listen to a recorded tone which I like and try to emulate it with the gear I have. I am the analogue dude, so too many parameters are a nuisance to me laugh.gif

Once you get that POD, maybe you can use these: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=41250 They are special POD tones, built by my band mate in Aria, perfectly suitable for djenty/ drop tuned tones.

A thing which you need to work on is getting a very tight and accurate right hand technique which we can tackle together, by working on my Metal Metrics series smile.gif

If you can get those riffs tight and mean - you will be able to tackle djenty stuff with ease. In the mean time, what sort of djent bands are you listening to? It's important to get they style imbued into yourself by listening to a lot of music!

Ok, great, but I wouldn't be getting the POD maybe until late November or early December! The only bands I really know and like are Born of Orsiris, Periphery, and Feared. I really like Feared alot, and there's also Glass Cloud, but I'm not sure if it's a Djent band.

I'm sorry I'm making post late on the thread, I'm currently in school right now and I get home at 5:00. When I get home there's just enough time to do my homework really so yeah. I hope you understand. tongue.gif

Also, what did you thing of those quick samples I gave you?

Well, first things first wink.gif

Use this thread here, for an inspiration to your djent bands audition -> https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=40594

Second, your samples are very nice! I liked the ideas but I will be very insistent on you working with a metronome or backing tracks so that I can hear your playing in respect to a rhythmic landmark smile.gif

This is how I suggest we should work, ok?

Ok, thanks...I usually work with a metronome when playing most things. However, I just wanted you to her a quick sample. I don't want to rush you, but can you give me some kind of lesson/exercise to practice that would improve my Djent "licks", I guess...I think I have all the motivation and inspiration I need, I just need to understand what makes Djent, "Djent"? If you know what I mean... My riffing isn't as good as I want it to be and I'm hoping you can help me with that!

Also, I've checked out the forum and read most of the stuff that's on there, thanks for those post. I understand what Djent is, now I just have a tuff time making my own Djent songs. However, I learn things very fast and fluidly...It would be nice to have a good battle on here!

You will have more than a good battle my friend smile.gif But to be able to reach that sort of precision, you need to become very good with rhythm. If you want to start working hands on, on something oriented in that direction, how about this one?

Howdy bro! Ok, now, the tone seems to be ok, but your timing is a bit faulty - by that, I mean that you are slightly behind the drum groove - pay attention to this issue and let's solve it together. Please re-record the take at 75% of the speed - using the backing track and play it from beginning to the end biggrin.gif I want to hear all the riffs wink.gif

Do we have a deal? smile.gif

I haven't got to re-record yet, but I was wondering what string gauge I should buy to get a really Djenty sound. Should I go with the "12-52" or should I get the "12-60"? Please tell me which one you think can get me a brutal sound will playing in Drop A#...

PS: I'm using a pitch shifter to tone down instead of tuning all the strings!

Mate, I am using 12-68 baritone strings from Elixir on my PRS Mike Mushok baritone guitar (tuned to drop A) and Elixir 12-52s on the PRS Paul Allender (tuned to drop C)

I think the 12-60 would work very well with drop A# though smile.gif it's a matter of testing wink.gif

Ok, thanks, but I also play mostly Metalcore so I was thinking the strings might be to heavy and they would be right for that genre...I'll just get some string and test them out though. That's the only way to really know!

Indeed, they should be heavy but they shouldn't feel heavy for your hands or for the guitar wink.gif

Experiment a bit, will ya? biggrin.gif How's the new movie going?
