Its all opinion, i know people who think Hetfields voice is better now, i still think Mustaines has remained great throughout the years.

When you say Thrash, I start thinking more in the vein of blazingly fast rhythm lines accompanied with a little shred here and there.

Thrash guitarist making RIFFS: James
Guitarist in general : Dave (Marty Friedman, really though)
Songwriter: James

I feel compelled to revive this thread. I think the question should be; if mustaine stayed in Metallica, what style of music would Metallica have played? More Megadeth or Metallica as we know it? Kirk brought alot of blues to metallica which clearly James agrees with when you look at load/reload and the solos he wrote, such as in Nothing Else Matters. Whereas Mustaine is much more rigid in his playstyle and tries to overwhlem more in his playing with some pretty fast stuff.

Im glad mustaine left metallica, cause if he stayed, we wouldnt have Megadeth, and if we didnt have megadeth, we wouldnt have Rust In Peace, which is just unthinkable!

^that's the way I look at it.

Had Mustain stayed with Metallica, I think that they would either still be together and playing more of the style of music that Megadeth does now, kind of trying to straddle the fence between more comercial music and thrash metal; or, more likely, imo they would have split up. I mean, Dave has pretty much kicked out or pissed off every band member who's been Megadeth, so he's obviously not the easiest person to get along with.
