Hey guys, I need some pups suggestions for a new axe thats coming my way, its mahogonay strat body, maple neck, ebony board, HSS config with a non locking trem.
As I already have a good Les Paul style and a strat Im looking for something a little "Hotter" in the bridge and neck as this will end up my main gig weapon and needs to be a nice pair up with my new Mesa.
So im looking for warm neck tones for some nice blues/rock leads and a punchy bridge bucker that can breathe through the mahogany body and not get bogged down in the bass.
I've a few ideas but thought I would ask my old pals on the forums!

Cheers guys!

Mesa Boogies work best with Ceramic humbucker so I say Seymour Duncan SH-5 (in your case Trembucker Tb-5 because of the trem)!

The Sh-5 Or Duncan Custom is a really hot PAF Style humbucker that breathes the vintage vibe of a classic PAF humbucker paired with the output and cut of a modern pickup (don't worry it's not too hot). It cuts very well through mahagony and is really punchy in the bass.
Also it is very versatile! The Duncan Custom is aimed at Rock and Heavy Blues but it also sounds well when doing Metal (thanks to the clarity it has)

Do you want the coils to be real single coils or are stacked humbuckers also ok?

I could suggest some of the Virtual Dimarzios for the neck, specially Virtual 54 and Virtual heavy Blues 2, and for Bridge I can recommend Mo'Joe, or if you want higher output Evo Bridge.

I would prefer a single coli for the neck for sure, I like strat neck tones but it needs to be beefier than a vintage style to match the output of the bridge little better.

The heavy blues was on my shortlist for the neck for sure, I'll check out the MoJoe too, I have dimarzios in my other guitar nd i do like them!

Have a look at his site. If you have something specific in mind tonally then don't be afraid to contact him about custom windings!

If you want to go custom, you can try bareknuckle pickups too!
A Holy Diver or Cold Sweat bridge pickup and two Irish Tour or Slowhand Coils will give you a great sound!

I am still thinking about your guitar's tonality... Mahagony body with a maple neck and Ebony board could sound a bit bright (depends on the thickness and density of the mahagony). A Ceramic pickup COULD (not neccesarily) sound a bit trebly in your guitar. If that's the case I would go for a SD Sh-4 Jeff Beck rather than a Sh-5...

Could sound bright, but it doesn't have to be bright at all. I tried out recently, and heard from the audience LP Raw Power, that thing has really good low end, and it has maple body AND maple fingerboard. It uses 57 pups with pronounced mids and didn't sound too bright too me at all. Very balanced sound, with great low end. But I agree that well balanced pickup should be used, not too bright, not too dark.
