Lets get started Alejandro!
In your guitar CV I read plenty of cool things. I like the fact that you want to improve technique (alternate picking) but also work on theory harmony, improvisation and become better jazz player.
For your 1st assignment I picked some alternate picking exercises that are great for warm up and cover all strings.
Here is your 1st assignment :
- Record all 5 exercises at tempo you can play without mistakes.
- Ideally it would be great to do video recording and put it on Youtube. Then you can embed that video in this thread here.
- If these 5 exercises seem like a lot to do, try to do at least 3 of your choice but do them in at least 2 different tempos (60bpm and 80bpm for example).
- If this is little work load for you, I suggest you record 5 exercises in 3 different tempos!
If you have any questions Alejandro just let me know. I am providing you here PDF files with alternate picking along with fingerings I use for each.
Time limit for 1st assignment is one week from today! (12th of September)

Thanks Pedja!
Seems like a very cool assignment!
Just have one question... would you prefer I record them with a clean tone or with a distorted tone ?

Great question Alejandro!
If you are playing them at very slow tempo, I would like to hear clean tone. If you are aiming at fast tempos, definitely do it with distortion so I can hear if you have troubles with muting !

hey Pedja,
Is there any tempo in special you would like for me to the exercises?
Posted by: Pedja Simovic Sep 5 2009, 04:22 PM
I suggest 1st tempo as very easy (total warm up), 2nd tempo for a slight challenge (from 60 until 100bpm) and 3rd tempo from as your maximum tempo.

Awesome Alejandro. You got 5-6 days left, use them wisely
Feel free to post MP3 takes in the meanwhile so I can monitor where you are at with tempos!

Hi pedja!
I did an mp3 of the first exercise at 100 BPM please tell me how is it
I am new to direct recording so I'm sure the sound will not be good.
Anyways here it is.
by the way I think there is a bit of latency
Cheers,
Alejandro

Alejandro I just listened to your examples. You should lower the tempo because in every example you are playing behind the beat (you are not playing on click but rather late). 100bpm seems to be a bit of a struggle for you right now. Why don't you try 90bpm?
Focus on playing on click, thats all that matters !
Posted by: Pedja Simovic Sep 10 2009, 10:15 PM
Alejandro, how are you doing with exercises? Did you move the tempo? Are you playing on click every exercise?
I am waiting for your response
Posted by: Alejandro osorno Sep 10 2009, 10:21 PM
I just arrived from school,
I am going to start practicing right now
Posted by: Pedja Simovic Sep 10 2009, 10:22 PM
Excellent!
If you record something soon please post it, I would like to hear it!
Posted by: Alejandro osorno Sep 10 2009, 10:24 PM
Sure!
I'll Start right now by lowering the tempo and being sure I play on click.
I hope I can post them today
