GMC Forum _ Competitions _ You'd Better Not Be Talkin To Me!

Posted by: Justin Myrick Mar 14 2011, 02:56 PM

It's time to grab your camera and show what you're made of. We wanna see some attitude!

VIDEO COMPETITION : SHOW YOUR
ATTITUDE!

How to enter :
1. Choose a GMC lesson that can express your playing style,
feeling and attitude the best way possible. You can choose ANY lesson
from our archive (any style and difficulty).

2. Shoot a video of your performance over the lesson's backing track.

3. In the video - express your attitude/feeling/showmanship the
best you can! You can go wild here and rock out. Depending on the lesson
and style you choose - feeling should be appropriate (or not? hehe smile.gif ).
It's your call - just show us your personality through playing.
* Show us your metal horns sign in the beginning of the video - no
matter which genre you play.

4. Post your video on youtube and in the uploads thread to enter
the competition.
You need to shoot a video specially for this competition, though if you
wish, you can play something you already know!

THE PRIZES :

1st Prize:
Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer

2nd Prize:
Monster Cable M Rock-21

3rd Prize:
Dunlop Strap Lok

No Cash or alternative prizes will be offered!

Details of competition:

- The competition deadline for entry submission will be
April 15th 2011.
- In order to simplify things, we are just going to have one thread so please post your replies here.
- Once the competition closes, voting will start and most interesting videos will be chosen by GMC Staff.

Lesson Closed: Head to page 5 to see the list of winners.

Hey Sean - you should definitely enter this one.

This competition is not about recording and awesome audio/video quality or perfect execution of lesson.
It's about "how" you play and feel it.

Don't worry much about the technical stuff and just try to capture the right vibe smile.gif

Looking forward to seeing your take.

Actually this is a very good point. Attitude is NOT just making crazy faces and going wild. This works too as you can clearly hear the attitude in the playing and feel the smoothness of execution while at the same time he makes it look "boring and easy". smile.gif

This is all what is this competition about. Try to feel the tune and play it how you feel it. You don't have to go wild if you don't feel it. Just play it like you mean it! smile.gif

Just be relaxed and natural and the feeling will come out! smile.gif

Posted by: Todd Simpson Mar 23 2011, 11:53 PM

Well said Bogdan smile.gif Don't force it, just let it happen. How it sounds is honestly more important than how it looks but how it looks can't be ignored or we wouldn't use video. So give it a shot and be you!

Posted by: Bogdan Radovic Mar 24 2011, 12:03 AM

Here are some tips for this competition :

- Choose the lesson you feel you are most comfortable playing.
- Select the one that expresses you and your style the best.
- Hit the record button
- Play the lesson and ENJOY it smile.gif

We are not going to evaluate if you missed the bending pitch or lacked vibrato - but rather how much you felt and enjoyed playing it. For example you can try playing more aggressively then you usually do (to emulate the feeling of playing on stage). Just pick harder. Or you can play more softly if its an emotional solo that you are performing? You can make crazy faces like Kris does OR stay cool ? smile.gif) Possibilities are endless! smile.gif

Posted by: thefireball Mar 25 2011, 02:49 AM

And it's even okay if I change the key of the backing track? tongue.gif I've got an idea!! cool.gif

Ok let's remove this.

New rule : you don't have to show your metalhorns in the beginning of the video IF you think its too cheesy! smile.gif))

Posted by: Gitarrero Apr 7 2011, 04:17 PM

Okay, obviously someone has to break the ice, and I'm volunteering tongue.gif
As you can see, Metalhorns are not too cheesy for me...I watch a lot of Sci-Fi B-Movies, so I'm used to a lot of cheesiness (if I can call it that).
I chose Adrian's awesome "metal for rockers" lesson but had to practice over and over again to play it as clean as possible while banging my head and shaking my guitar. And I had to wait until my neighbor leaves the house, cause I couldn't use headphones...nearly broke mine when I tried it with them and they fell off my head from banging... laugh.gif

Enjoy!

Okay here is my take. There are some minor mistakes, but the backingtrack covers them nicely tongue.gif I messed the last note, so I censored it by deletion ph34r.gif

The guy in the blue jeans didn't synchronize 100%, but it was my first try at merging videos, and it was quite difficult in windows movie maker:/

EDIT: oh forgot to say, it was lesson by Kai Muhlenbruch, he made three lessons few years ago, check them out, all are great (and he has some uber attitude also:) )

I love this Marek... you did a great job with the synched videos I thought !! Great playing too cool.gif

Thanks Ben! Last year I was looking for "easy" level 7 lessons (I made a new year resolution to record 4 such lessons and it appeared I can't:P), and this lesson is relatively easy and great sounding, so I practiced it from time to time for over a year now. Haven't posted it for REC because it felt bit like cheating tongue.gif

EDIT: also there should be a link to Kai line6 tone preset somewhere in the comment section of one of his lessons if I remember correctly.

Well, wasn't really into this kind of stuff.. but since I recovered my thumb rupture about 2 weeks ago and been able to use the pick again, I have been practicing this lesson for about a week. Interestingly, I was able to 130bpm before the accident and somehow, I could push myself to do 140bpm quite ok (without the faces). So, I decided to submit just for fun and today is the last date.

Well, a hard lesson and absolutely fits with the show attitude theme. A lot went wrong with 'faces'. The first try today was pretty good but I thought well, I missed one note so I will try and more I tried, the worse it got. Anyway, Instead of rupturing another ligament, I thought this is okay and its not about playing anyway. I couldn't do much faces as I wanted because the playing was getting worse and worse but hopefully you will all like it. smile.gif

Thanks guys. I hope I can do original tempo of this lesson in few weeks (well, been practicing this for a year or so, who knows). biggrin.gif

Good Luck to you all.

To all you head-bangin', metal horns throwin', and mean muggin' rockers that submitted your takes in the "Show Your Attitude" competition, WE SALUTE YOU!!

I must say picking winners was quite difficult because each and every video displayed tremendous amounts of attitude. After a long debate we have chosen.

1st: Fireball- 5 minutes of entertaining, classic rocker stance, great head bangin', and great facial expressions.
2nd: Rated Htr - great head bangin, priceless facial expressions, and having a cape always helps!
3rd: Superize - awesome facial expressions, good head bangin', good energy, and a solid metal horns ending.

Congrats to the winners! I must say that we do have to honorably mention the following members:

Gitarrero - nice metal horns, great head bangin', and awesome facial expressions.
Marek - split screen rocked, also great head bangin', and good energy.
Amir - great exaggerated strums, great angles, and nice full body bangs.
Maharzan - super technical, great facial expressions, and good energy.

There you have it GMC'ers! Nice work. For all of those who didn't get the chance or missed the competition, never fear, there's many more to come!!!

Winners: Please send me a PM with your addresses to receive your prizes.
