Hi Brian and welcome to GMC smile.gif

Is there a specific area of rock and metal that you're most interested in ? Any specific bands or guitarists ?

Also, are there any techniques that you would like to improve ?

We're all here to help so feel free to ask anything !

Cool, ok well we can definitely point you in the right direction to improving your picking technique. I think most of us at GMC have encountered many problems with this technique and also changed the way we pick a few times as well.

One thing that transformed things for me was noticing that I wasn't holding the pick close enough to the pointy tip. I thought I was but I wasn't. Not only does holding it closer to the tip mean that there's a stronger grip and less resistance when you hit the string but it also forces your wrist to move more to cross over strings because you can't cheat as much by forcing the pick through with your fingers.

What thickness of pick do you use ?

Also, have a read of my Practice Journal thread.. I talk about this and another thing that helped me immensely..

Hey Brian and welcome! What part of PI are you in? I was stationed in the Olongapo / Subic area in early 1990 when the US had bases there. Beautiful country you have! smile.gif
