Hiya, I like jazzy chord progressions and I know that one way to make a piece of music more interesting is to use modulations... but how do they work in fact? I know that the circle of fifths is useful there and that modulating into the fourth or fifth note is good (or is it? ), but I have little knowledge concerning how to use them in practice. Could you help me out?
here's a cool video on basics of modulation, it's for piano, but it's the same thing for guitar
A basic way to modulate to another key is to just play the 5 chord of that key and then the 1. For example, lets say you're in the key of A major and you want to switch to E major. You could play the 2 chord of A major, which is B minor, then change it to B7 and resolve to E major. There are a few other types of modulations as well.
