Hello Purple Hayes! Welcome to our February Mtp!
Assignment 1: This week we will start working on your bending technique. The lesson for this first assignment is an easy but very effective tune where you'll find different type of bends. It's called D Minor bending and has been composed by Laszlo Boross. I know that you'll find the lesson easy but It will let me know how precise your bending is. Assignment 1 Please concentrate on your bend's pitch. It's not important to play the lesson exactly like the original so you can add some of your ideas. You should also add vibrato in the longer bends. This post has been edited by Gabriel Leopardi: Feb 5 2010, 01:23 AM -------------------- Visit my Personal Board

This is my suggestion for this month:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Stevie...pired_Phrasing/ This lesson is a great blues lesson with lots of bends and strong vibrato. http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Gary_M...pired_Phrasing/ Another great lesson in the same style. What do you think? Both are amazing lessons but you can choose which one. -------------------- Visit my Personal Board

I'll have the weekly lesson posted later today (tonight probably). Do you have another weekly lesson picked out, since we're running a little behind for the month?

Hello Purple Hayes! Thanks for the update.
Assignment 2: I was thinking on a short and old blues lesson of my own called "Blues licks 3" for our second assignment. I though in this lesson because it's a beginner lesson based in the rhythm style of SRV. As you are preparing Jonathan's SRV lesson this could be a nice warming up. The scales used are the dominant arpeggio of each chord and E blues scale. Check it out! Blues licks 3 -------------------- Visit my Personal Board

I did two takes of this lesson. One is with vibrato on the bends and one is just holding the bends so you can better hear the pitch I landed on.

Both takes are very good! The intonation of your bending is perfect! I don't think that this technique is a problem for you. The thing that I note is that your bends could be wider and stronger. I feel that every bend is exactly the same in this take and it makes your playing a bit flat. Maybe it's because you were concentrated only on your bending... but that's what I noticed in this take (the first one).

Great playing man! You learned every note of the lesson perfectly and I think that you did a very good job. I feel that you could improve this take even more if you concentrate on the groove that you give to your playing. It has some very little timing issues (being extremely strict!) that fixed would make this take sound more groovy. I feel this more in the fist half of the lesson. Do you understand and hear what I mean?

Assignment 3:
I was thinking on a lesson for this week that is a killer hard rock etude with some riffing and very expressive bending and vibrato. It's a Jonathan Burgos lesson called Vintage hard rock and I think that it's an easy (excepting the faster legato lick over pentatonic) but effective lesson to train your expression. I'm impressed with Jonathan's vibrato and I think that it would be really cool if you try to imitate his way of playing the vibrato technique to incorporate a bit of it into your playing. I think that the important thing here is how you play it instead of what you play. This is the link to the lesson: Vintage hard rock -------------------- Visit my Personal Board

Great, that's an awesome sounding lesson. It will be a lot to learn in a week, but I'll give it my best shot.
-John ETA: Ok, I've worked on the lesson a bit. It's not as hard as it sounded. That lick at the end may be tricky though.
