NO WAY! Don't change anything man! I simply LOVE it - that intervention at 0:16 is so sweet! Great work! biggrin.gif I am really excited about this one as it's very musical and balanced. I also think that the structure makes sense for an isntrumental version - too many repetitive parts would be boring! You are well on your way, man! I am really proud and looking forward on the outcome!!

Great! Was worried you weren't gonna like it! laugh.gif

I kinda wanna fit another solo in the bridge, know one or two other guys on YouTube that would be down for a guest solo part.
When you break it down, it's just four chords looped; so say I have them play the melody from 0:02 to 0:18 (so just the first half of the melody), then loop it for another 8-16 bars for their own solo, do you think that would work?

Or should I cut out the melody completely and let them have the entire section?

Hey mate - I thought that having them play the main melody would be interesting as it can have an introductory feeling and it can showcase their distinct musical personalities which can be emphasized on the theme - they will play it differently biggrin.gif And it will be very obvious, so yeah, keeping the melody for them would be great! The more I listen to it, the more I like it! Good work matey!

Actually, do you wanna take this section? You're helping me out with cover stuff anyway, might as well get you in on one of them! laugh.gif

I've got some other projects that need solos, so I can always collab with others later. BTW, would the GMC approach work if I wanted to work with someone? I'd give them a backing track and let them go at it?

I'm only asking because, e.g. For this bridge section, we have this idea of the first half of the melody staying the same, then a solo. But at the same time, I don't wanna ask for too much from someone -

Personally, if I was 'forced' to use a melody then write a solo leading on from it, I'd feel very restricted in what I can do - there's definitely some extra work involved in transitioning from melody -> solo vs. me going, "Here's a 16 bar backing, do whatever you want over it."

After reading what I wrote though, i'm not sure if that made much sense...biggrin.gif

If you're up for it, here's the backing track and there's a midi mockup of what the harmonized run would sound like at the end. If you need a couple more bars, lemme know or loop it yourself and I can fix it up later. And I assume you can work the melody out for yourself and won't need tabs, it's literally 4 notes. laugh.gif

Hey bro!

I'd be delighted to and to your surprise, for me it makes a lot of sense and it doesn't sound restrictive at all smile.gif It's far easier to get creative being given some guidelines, rather then being put in front of a 'blank' piece of paper and not knowing where to start from wink.gif Of course you can always post about your projects and invite people to take part and record - it's what GMC is all about - collaboration and helping each other grow through it smile.gif

Now, I'm a bit stranded here in terms of recording means, as my audio interface is on its way (I checked the order status and it's still in Vienna). I hope I will receive my new device and be ready to record next week - by the way, what sort of a deadline do you have in mind?

Didn't really think about it from that perspective. Guess at the end of the day, it just depends on the individual and how they approach writing.

Nothing too strict for the deadline, i'm pushing this video back to around February/March time; really wanna get one of my originals finished and get some guest solos in.

No rush, so let's just say the last week of February? I don't have access to any recording gear till mid January anyway, went back to my parents house for the holidays. I'll probably finish recording the rest of this cover by the end of February - None of the riffs and melody lines are that challenging to play. Only thing that might slow me down is if I can't play the solo i've written, not actually tried yet so...fingers crossed. laugh.gif

So i'm going to need -
Video - Ideally 720p but if you can't that's fine, I can work around it. Do whatever you want, either one continuous take or multiple shots from different angles. You've got that GoPro right? Would be cool to see it in action.

Your guitar track with the backing track as a reference.

And your DI guitar recording (.wav or .aif), makes mixing a lot easier.

That sounds absolutely great for me, mate smile.gif It will be done!

Well, yeah, I do believe that each and every one of us is different, but for me the 'creativity under the gun' idea has proven useful a lot of times smile.gif For my band, as well - for instance, when we were not able to decide on the final versions of the songs for our first EP, I took the initiative and started the preparations for the release events and the others were pretty pissed about it, but in the end they recognized that if we wouldn'te have been forced to be ready for the release concert at the established date, we wouldn't have sorted the material out ever laugh.gif

Looks like I will receive my audio interface tomorrow, if UPS is honest biggrin.gif
