Hi all.. I'm a guitarist from Nevada USA. I've been playing 40+ some odd years. I grew up on Sabbath, Aerosmith, Led Zep, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, etc.. too many to name. I'm a local area musician and play in a country/rock and a classic rock band in the area. I found this site while searching You Tube for country licks. After looking at what you folks had to offer, I decided to join. Lots of great stuff here.. Being an old blues/rock guitarist, I rely heavily on a hammer on/pull off economy picking kind of style. But I would really like to develop some alternate picking technique. It's such a great modern sound.
So I started listening to the alternate picking lesson plan. I'm going through Kris's speedpicking lessons now. I pulled out my old metronome and installed a fresh battery. I'm ready to rock. I also happened upon Muris Varajic's pentatonic llicks lesson. Great stuff, wonderful tone..
So many things to discover here.
I played a bar gig last night with my country/rock band. I found myself becoming more aware of my picking technique. I closed my hand up, angled the pick a little, and busted out some beginner AP. It was great..
Lastly, a special thanks to Ben Higgins for sending me the welcome email.. thanks.

Hey, welcome again to GMC ! Great to see you on the forums smile.gif

Alternate picking is very useful and has a great, percussive sound to it.. although I also really like using economy for certain licks too (probably similar to things that you use) so I aim to cultivate both.

My belief is if we have a natural gravitation towards a particular technique then we should embrace it.. but also to expand our technical ability as well. So I totally recommend to do what you're doing.

As Gabriel said, we're all here to help so shoot any of us a message anytime cool.gif

I live here in NV as well. Are you from the Vegas area? ... or northern Nevada/Reno area? If Reno, I should get out to hear your band some time. It's good to get to know the local musicians. I see by your user name that you're into PRS's. Me too. I've got two ... a Custom 24 and a Swamp Ash Special. Fantastic guitars eh?

Anyway, welcome to GMC. This is an awesome resource for guitarists as I'm sure you have already noticed. It will be a great way to get into and explore some areas of guitar playing that you've focused less on in the past. (like AP). Same for me. I've been working on my picking skills since I started here and have noticed improvements in that area. Check out the neo-classical lessons if you like that style. Very picking intensive stuff for sure and rooted in theory at the same time.

hey JamesT.. my name is Bob. Yea, I love my PRS. It's a McCarty with soapbars. 2005 I think. Beautiful guitar. I get lots of compliments about it. I'm in the Carson City, Gardnerville area. I have a couple of projects going right now. One is a Country/Rock band called the Bootleggers. We play out a lot in the area. We just played Minden Park this past Saturday. We opened for Lavish Green. Great band!
I also have a classic rock band that I'm reforming.. name yet to be determined..that I want to do some old Sabbath, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin, among others. Kind of revisit the songs and artists that I grew up with...
It's nice to hear from a local guy. This site is so international, I'm getting used to hearing from guitarist's everywhere from Serbia to Austrailia. It's great to know that some of us USA guys are catching on to this GMC stuff.
Maybe we'll catch up to each other one of these days! Till then.. Happy Playing.
