Ultra Focus, Albino, Atmosphere, Nexus etc.

Also in addition to those Muris mentions, if you are willing to experiment/program a synth, the various Arturia (and others like NI) emulations of famous real hardware synths like the mini Moog, ARP2000, Yamaha CS30, Sequential Circuits Prophet 5. All of these featured on a load of hit records and often provided the 'killer synth bassline'... I would add an emulation of Nord's but the only software I've seen that emulates Nord's stuff well comes with Nord hardware and costs over 1000Euros.
If you really get in to programming/building then Tassman and NI's Reaktor are good synth construction software which allow you to design and build not only synth vstis but also effects. -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. Usually the keyboard instruments can be either synths, samplers, or combination of both.
synths make sounds using sound synthesis, you have 1 or more oscilators, and you shape the sound yourself using filters, envelopes and other tools. Great example would be Korg MS-20 VST, or Moog Minimog V, that are actually modeled from great analog synths of the same name. Samplers make sounds using samples. You can load a sample, and then play it on a keyboard. They usually also have some or many shaping tools to further shape the sampled sound as you wish. There are also products that have in built samples. There are many samplers available, and Battery is a good one. Example of a sampler that has built in samples is Grand Piano that has recorded hi quality piano samples, and using technologies to layer those samples so you get a very realistic sound. Combination of both means that you can combine both oscilator sounds with already recorded samples. Great new VSTi is Omnisphere, which has several layers available, and many advanced options. It is probably one of the most advanced VSTis available today. The keyboard VSTi that is IMO really great for many things and has great quality/price ratio is Spectrasonics Atmosphere. Great for everything, specially for pads. Another good one is Korg Legacy collection, a bit difficult to use, but also very advanced and flexible. Atmosphere can be very simple to use for beginners, but it is very advanced it you want it too as well, so I think that is a very good thing to consider. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
