A pick that wont bend but still feels comfortable in the hand is the way to go mate, too much flex will just waste energy transfer into the string, I use 3mm big stubbys but that is quite extreme, I know lots of guys opt for between 1.14 and 1.5mm which is probably optimum for both picking and strumming, in terms of manufacturer then its just a case of trial and error!

That is a good question! A thick pick can help control, but I have found also that you can go too thick.

I settled for a Dunlop Gator grip 1.14mm and found it to be just perfect, give it a try ! smile.gif

It's very personal. Try every pick you can try, and see what works for you smile.gif

I use a Dunlop Jaz III... I think it as 1.38mm.... You have to test a few pick to sse wich ones you like.. If you want to shred tho I suggest you use a heavy pick... Between 1 and 2 mm I would suggest but some like bigger ones.

I use quite hard pick with very very little bending. That's because if I want to strum I still have some natural strokes with "pick breath". If the pick was hard as a stone then my strumming wouldn't really have any dynamics. Also I can alternate pick with no problem smile.gif

I use medium Dunlop green tortex picks with 0.8 mm, but lately I was thinking about getting harder picks, as the medium ones bend a bit too much when I play metal stuff.

I played Dunlop triangular tortex 1.00 (blue) than moved to purple ones that are bit fatter, than bought Clayton triangular picks 1.36 (not known brand of picks but for me better sounding than the tortex ones) - yesterday got a beginner/starter pack from V-picks and love those, so most probably will stay with the V-picks now.

Thick one for the speed. Lighter are better for more acoustic stuff I think. But small and thick picks are for speed, all best and fastest players use them. Except for the Al di Meola, but he plays acoustic anyway!
