Hello Lcsdds (I'll call you bob, that's shorter tongue.gif)

I saw in Smells' post that I'm in your group, and that's good news tongue.gif I'm a "friend" of Jesse (MSN friend tongue.gif ) So I followed your thread a bit, seemed very neat! A bit about myself:

My name is Kaz, and I'm 15 and a bit. I have played many years, but not ver efficient. I got a spanish acoustic 3/4 when I was about 8, my dad learned me some chords and I played very few times a month. Oktober 2007 I bought an electric guitar, and I started to play some serious guitar. If people ask me how long I've beeen playing, I say a bit over a year, or a bit shorter then one and a half year. I know play every day, but not hours a day. My motto is, have fun with your guitar, then you'll be motivated. This is also how I practice, no schedule, just jammin! It might not be very efficient, but with a schedule I have no fun at all, and I loose motivation.

I know all the ins and outs about GMC, I've been around for quite a while, and I'm almost part of the wallpaper here laugh.gif
My skills:
Solo = beginner intermediate. I play lessons here that are level 4 and 5. I can do legato (weird.. I don't really practice that, but i can pulll it of..), AP, little sweeping and tapping, but I'm not very much into tapping. My vibrato could use some help tongue.gif

Chords= not sure how to expres this. I can play all normal chords. All minor and major without peaking, and also some 7th chords, but others I have to look how to play them (I don't find this a big problem). I can play barre chords, no problemo. I think I can actualy say my chord skills are quite ok tongue.gif

Riffing: It's not like I riff and awful lot, but I think I'm ok with it. I can play metal rhythms no big deal.

fingerpicking = I'd like to work on this. Not full time, but a bit more then i do now. I can play the intro of under bridge, but not on speed. I think fingerpicking (especially acoustic) can be really cool tongue.gif

theory = I know the minor pentatonic (and with relative minor, I can do the major). So minor and major are all fine. I don't remember the exact places of all the root notes, but I've known the penta for over a year now, and I make all my solos in it, so atm I can fly through the boxes quite well. Now comes the time where I miss some extra notes, so I started on the blues scale. I know the blue notes int he first box, and I use them a lot, but I am/was to lazy to learn where the blue notes are in the other boxes. I also know how to play box 1 and 2 from the major scale.

ATM I'm very much into Satriani. I can play Always With Me, Always with You, until the hard legato parts start, and I'm learning the intro from if I could fly, but that's not gonna be a problem. I'm always in need of songs to learn, I just don't know enough of them! As for styles, I love blues and rock. I'm into melodic solos, and I really don't like senseless shredding tongue.gif lesson I dig are (for instance) Mark Knopler finger picked solo (muris), In the style of Steve Lukather (muris again) and Gab's Rock lessons. There are more lessons I love, these just came up tongue.gif

I hope this helps tongue.gif and for movies, my YT link is HERE. I also have a singing video online, just PM me if you want a link to that one. I use a POD GX for recording (toneport device) with POD farm. I can record MP3 quite quickly, but I don't like shooting videos tongue.gif Takes a lot of time for me. I don't have a webcam, so I need to setup camera, film, sync, produce etc. etc.

BTW, I'm fine with learning theory, but I think that gives you a new task, kicking me under the but, because (not sure why) I suck with learning theory, I just don't give a lot about it. But I use penta aalwaays so i know it's important tongue.gif

Hi Kanzie. Hope you are OK being paired with me. If you have Guitar Pro I would appreciate it if you would download the tab I provided. It is for learning Scales and Triads. Even if you know these already it is good to have as a reference.

I noticed you said you are not going to practice with a metronome. That is up to you my friend although I would reccomend it. The main thing I want you to learn at first is your scales and triads. You don't need to learn them overnight tho. Just slowly, maybe 10-15 min a day as a warmup would be great.

Tell me what aspect of your playing you are interested in working on and I will point you in the right direction with some GMC lesson Recommendations.

Also, since your timing is so good I would like to see a post of you playing Muris's Canon in D by the end of the week. laugh.gif laugh.gif

UPDATE: so to put everything here that you wished, I don't practice with metronome, but I can count along. I never count when playing solos, and I'm not planning to do either. My timing is just fin (I think that's a fair comment) and you can check on the boogie collab as a little example, which isn't the easiest rhythm.

Sorry if I seem a bit to positive about myself. I just tried to make an objective list. About the metronome, I'm fine with practicing using a metronome, but lots of times I'm just jamming a bit, and then I don't have a set speed! When i'm behind the computer learning songs, I can use a metronome or jam along with the GP5 file.

And the Canon in D, I've already covered that one.. just not sure where I left the video of that laugh.gif or not tongue.gif

Just to add, as I said I'm not into schedules and so, playing thingy 1 for 15 minutes, then thingy 2 for 10 minutes and then number 3 for 15 minutes, might not be ideal for me. I just mean I'm not that structured tongue.gif I'm going to keep up, but it is possible that it's not exactly like the schedule you "prescribe"!

Oh and paired with you... I think that's great! you're one of the active people, that's better then some mentor who stops with this two days after the start... And if I'm woried about my teeth I can always ask laugh.gif bad joke, i know wink.gif

No worries Kaz. This program is for you to get out of it what you want. I am only here to guide and give suggestions. Ultimately you have to decide what you want to learn and how you want to go about it. I can certainly tell you how I would approach something and give you what worked for me etc., but I am not gonna force you to do anything you don't want to.

Your first assignment can be found on the main thread. You might not want to do it though since your timing is fine already. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Let me know when you find the Canon in D video, I'd love to see it. laugh.gif laugh.gif BTW, If you want help with that lesson I have done it so I could give you some tips. smile.gif

Also Kaz, let me know what things you want to work on in your playing so I can make some recommendations for you. smile.gif

Ok, I'll get busy on your assignment this afternoon, cause I share this computer with my bro, so i can't use it untill the afternoon. I'd like to get my solos up to speed, but I want to play them melodic. For instance the Steve Lukather lesson would be super cool to learn, but I think it's to hard for now. i hope to shoot the canon in D somewhere next... Year tongue.gif

Cool Kaz. I want to see you challenge yourself so Mr. Lukather it is!! smile.gif Here ya go!!

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...r-style-lesson/

In my opinion the only way to learn these more difficult lessons is to just do them. If you get to a lick you are having a tough time with you make an excercise out of it and get to work with a metronome until you can play that part up to tempo!! Let's say the first 5 bars by Saturday shall we? You are good with your bends so these bars should be right up your alley. If you have questions or need help let me know. Good luck Kaz and good lesson choice!! smile.gif

I wish I'd never started bout the metronome xD Do you want a video or is mp3 ok? If it's gonna be video my sound quality is gonna be good enough to hear it all and stuff, but not for producing a song tongue.gif

EDIT: I just watched the metronome video again, and I have a question. When you play solos and stuff do you still count everything? Am I right when I say counting is great to get started, but after a while it should come natural?

Absolutely Kaz. After you use the metronome for awhile you will have and "inner metronome" that is alway going in your head or in the case of a backing track you will have drums or a drummer if you are playing a gig. The metronome is useful for developing you sense of timing. Some of Muris's lessons have you playing 16th triplets at 160 bpm mad.gif How are you supposed to get that up to speed without a metronome? The answer is YOU WON"T! smile.gif I don't count when I am playing solos either Kaz but I am counting subconsciously because I have worked with the metronome, or in my case a drum machine, so much that I can just feel where the beat it.

I know you said you don't want to shred and that is great, but you can't tell me that you don't want to throw the occasional shred run in your blues solos. Eric Johnson does and so did SRV!! smile.gif We'll go over it some more when you get to some of the faster runs in the Lukather lesson. I'll show you exactly how to use the metronome to get those runs up to speed. Unless of course you can already play them up to tempo. smile.gif You said you can play some Satriani until the hard legato parts start. How do you plan to remedy this? Just not play them? smile.gif The answer my friend is to get out the metronome and get to work. smile.gif

BTW, mp3 is ok but make sure I can hear a drumbeat so I know you are playing in time. smile.gif

I'll insert a click track

Here you go tongue.gif Can u explain (or link to an explanation) about the triads? I know how to build them, but what are these? Are these just ways of playing an Amaj chord, or are we gonna use them for arpeggios? And about the shredding, I think some fast licks/runs are great!

The Luke thingy is going very well! I'm now at bar 7, the bended tapping lick. It'll take some time but I can get that lick down, the one behind that one is a bit harder tongue.gif My finger hurts from all the bending, because I cut the nail to short yesterday xD. I really really dig this lesson, and I have a nice POD patch, so it all sounds ok as well.

If you have problems with it you know I'm gonna make you bust out the "KAZ-BOX right? laugh.gif laugh.gif Just post whatever you have done on Saturday or sometime this weekend. smile.gif BTW Kaz, is there any techniques you want to focus on? If so let me know and we'll look into a lesson on that.

Hmm.. not sure.

Hmm.. not sure.

No problem dude, there are plenty of techniques in the Luke lesson lets just focus on that. smile.gif I'll post a little later about that.

DUDE...Remember in an earlier post how you said you misplaced your Canon video? I had some extra time last night so I figured I'm gonna help the Kazinator out and see if I can't help him find that bad boy!!!

GUESS WHAT?...I got on youtube and found two videos of Muris's Canon. One obviously wasn't you because I could tell from the glasses that it was the Bosnian Beast himself playing his own awesome creation!! BUT...Look what else I found..

TA DA....

Now... I'm not sure if that was you because the dude was a little shy and didn't show his face, but....His fingers to me look distinctly DUTCH!!!

Post back Kazarama and let me know if this is the video you lost!! If it is you can take your Kaz-Box and smash it to smithereens because I stand corrected...Your timing IS just fine. I await your response!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

You are welcome dude!! When I saw the video I figured "I only know two Dutch guys with chops like that". One is Marcel Coenen but I would have been able to see the hair aaaannnnddd....No pink Guitar!!! laugh.gif The only other Dutch dude I knew that could pull that off was the Kazmeister. Again, GOOD JOB DUDE!! laugh.gif

Alright Kazareeno,
Since we solved the mystery of the lost Canon video we can get back to work now on the Luke solo.

So you said you got up through bar 7 yesterday. Keep working on that. smile.gif Let's peek ahead to Bars 8 & 9 though. These two bars have what looks to me to be some shred type playing. This is the point where one of two things is gonna happen:

A) Your technique is up to the challenge and you are gonna post a video of you playing that run flawlessly when you do your first progress post.

OR

B)Your technique is not at the point you can play that and you either just skip that run and move on OR...you gotta figure out how you are gonna pratice that part so you can play it eventually.

Since I am an optimist I am thinking you are gonna post a video of yourself playing it flawlessly BUT...I'm also a boy scout who was taught to "be prepared".

So I want you to think as a boy scout Kaz and assume that when you get to bars 8 & 9 that scenario 'B' happens. With that in mind tell me what the plan of attack is for that lick Kazmandu. smile.gif smile.gif
