What are you guys thoughts on this beast?

Im looking around for a 7 string maybe in the next few months. I had been kinda edging towards a Jackson soloist but this KM-7 looks interesting. Its got a few features that are swaying me away from the Jackson. It is quite a bit more money than I was planning on spending but I dont mind so much if its worth it. At the moment its going for about a grand in British money.

Im guessing the seymour duncan nazgul and sentient pickups in this are not active?

They are nice axes to be sure smile.gif But the Schecter neck is not for everyone. Even the siggy necks. It would be a shame to put down big money and then not dig it. Try to play some schecters and hopefully one of these though I've never seen one "in the wild" ever.

really? I just kinda assumed the necks would be awesome! Maybe not ibby wizard awesome but still cool.gif I dont think the local guy has any schecters, I'll need to take a trip to the big city to find some to try. Its likely that I wont find the KM-7 instocx anywhere near me but I might get a feel for them with the other models.
What is the main problem folks seem to have with the necks?

Before Schecter Keith had a model from Strickly7. And necks in those guitars were really thin. At least in the pictures and videos. So KM7 should have a thin neck.
But then again you should get your hands on it before ordering smile.gif

But I would love to have one too !

Have you thought about an Ibanez 7 string ?

indeed smile.gif ibanez were the first ones I looked at, if there had been a white rg7421 like Ben's instock I probably would have bought one of those already but I couldnt find one in the UK stores so I started looking around a bit more. Im after a fixed bridge model and also Im not keen on having the volume pot close to the pickup.
I have an ibanez s970 and the volume is closer than I would like but I can live with it because everything else about the guitar is great.
The volume on the Jackson soloist I was looking at is further away than the ibanez but Keith Merrow had the right idea with the KM-7 and put the volume well out of the way smile.gif
some of the schecters, like the Hellraiser, man its like they are trying to attach the volume pot to the pickup!

those look very impressive. I dont know how Id get on without inlays but its a very nice looking guitar. I wonder why the import version is so much cheaper than the KM-7, maybe the pickups? I would guess the nazgul and sentients are more expensive than the duncan designed.
I'd love to have a play of it though.

Non-floyd schecters are very popular where I live (the quality of their floyds are pretty bad as I heard) but the necks are kind of thick, not classic LP thick as its a bit more modern C shape but even the Jeff Loomis wasn't thin at all.

Someone recently on a local forum bought the PXM10FRQTBLM http://www.washburn.com/products/electric/PXM10FRQTBLM.html

Check out the neck joint smile.gif

Didn't play one yet but would like to, to me they made the best comeback in recent years compared to other guitar brands.

The typical shecter neck profile is a pinch thick and beefy on many models but the KM-7 is supposed to have an amazingly thin 7 string neck with a C shape much like a wizard prestige 7 or modern boutique shred guitar. The measurements are actually really close to the wizard II six string neck apparently with 19mm at the nut which is as thin as any Ibby 7 I"m aware of. My 7620 is the same size. Also, I prefer the C shape of the M-7 to the D shape of the Wizard II 7 that comes on all Ibby 7 string except the pricier prestige 7 series which also features a C countour neck.

What keith did was basically spec a nearly identical guitar to what he had Bernie Rico build for him, but instead gave it to Schecter. The pickups are top notch. Hard to find a better choice on an aggressive 7, neck sounds like it should be spiff, woods are fine too. I've not played one, but the more I read about them I want to smile.gif I'd written schecters off after years of not liking their necks, but this one sounds like it's going to be a monster of an axe.

Thart's a "Steven's extended cutaway" joint!
Designed by Steve Stevens and Washburn on his signature model. It's also found on the N4 Nuno Bettencourt signature models too!

Awesome smile.gif 5 blots, seems sets in deeper to the body than classic bolton structure...access seems comfy too. I did saw it on an N4 before but these are supposed to be more affordable.

Just noticed that this guitar is only $999 in the states. Its £1030 GBP here in the UK ( more or less ). That seems a bit harsh to me. I know that some guitars are a bit more expensive here in the UK but not usually by as much as £400 GBP.
Jacksons can be £100 - £200 more expensive compared to the US, I understand that they are imported over to here and that costs but still..... £400 GBP seems a little high.
kinda putting me off buying it.

I dunno though, coz the Jacksons I had been looking at were about 100 lower in £. I would expect maybe £200 on top of the US price but £400?
Maybe its down to the individual makers, I dunno. Kinda sucks a bit when you convert the the price into pounds huh.gif

If you buy from an online vendor can you get around the price increase? musiciansfriend and sweetwter carry shecters. Also, if you can stand waiting just a bit, they will start showing up on Ebay before you know it. Just need to find one with international shipping. Even just barely used usually takes 25 to 45 percent off street price depending on the seller.

Have you had a chance to play one? It's a bit investment to make without getting to touch one.

They were due in the UK stores by the end of august but they seem to have been put back until sometime in September. Im keeping an eye on the nearest big guitar store, they have them for pre-order online but they are a big chain so whether or not the branch near me actually gets one in stock... if they do I'll be trying it out. Its more than I intended to spend but tbh it ticks all the boxes for me so if I really cant try it first I still may take a chance on it.
Im in no great rush however, so I can see how things go. A friend of mine is back and forth to the states for work quite a lot rolleyes.gif maybe I can get him to grab one for me smile.gif
the fact that its turning out to be quite complicated to get is only enhancing its desirability! Its almost becoming a personal challenge ph34r.gif

Yeah, patience is a virtue if you can manage it smile.gif If you can find one used in a store you can shave hundreds off. But no matter what try your best to resist the urge to buy before you play one if at all possible smile.gif It looks like a great axe, but I've been quick to buy in the past before playing and have learned the hard way about trying to resell a new instrument, and that's a big purchase.

But either way, you gotta do what you gotta do smile.gif Let us know!
