Hey Peter!
First thing that captures my attention is the tone. We can judge it at 2 fields - overall spectrum which is quite subjective of course and response for palm muting which is less subjective to judge when we speak about heavy rhythm playing. Metal from the 90's was more scooped and definitely brighter - that had huge affect on the punch given by palm muted parts. I'm not sure because I'm not able to see it cleary but it sounds a little like a "second switch position in stratocaster" - like a signal from other pickup was interrupting the tone of bridge pickup. The tone is definitely not enough tight for the task. Above I'm just wondering where to search for the cause.

As for playing itself.
I had a weird feeling on your timming in this take. I felt like your playing was consistent but all guitar part was sort of moved in timline comparing to backing track. Something like 10 miliseconds....maybe recording gear latency ...who knows - it sound in front of the beat to me.
I do not find anything critical here. I can only suggest to search for tone match and just a little tiny tip on improving notes separation:
Use a tip of your left hand finger (usually left index) to touch low strings when you hit open notes. It always help to increase contrast in those "paml muting vs open accent" combos like 0:39 for example or 0:18.

Hello Peter!

Darius has given you some excellent feedback here and I agree with him on ever point.

I was also going to mention the tone and how it sounds very Strat-like. Although it's a tasteful tone it's not quite chuggy enough for this track. It also makes some of the notes sound metallic and harsh. If it is like Darius says, then switch to the bridge pickup. If you were on the bridge pickup then perhaps try using another preset.

I do think that you made a good choice in keeping the gain moderate, though, as this helps to keep the clarity of the riffs.

Timing is not bad but in some places you cut the notes off a bit in order to fit everything in... some of the chord movements are a bit rushed, ok?

Great to see you working on this classic lesson!

My friends have shared very precise feedback about your playing and your tone here. I had the same sensation while listening to your take. It's not bad but I'm not totally convinced of your groove, articulation and tone. I would start by tweaking the tone which I think will make you feel more comfortable while playing the lesson and then get into polishing each section to make it sound smoother and tighter.

Please experiment with your tone and feel free to send me some audio samples for extra feedback.
