Summertime, the great song by composer George Gershwin has been a favorite of jazz artists for decades. Many, Joe Pass, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson and others all have their own 'treatment' of the song which often goes pretty far afield from the original Opera version.

What I would like to do is take this song, using the original Gershwin piano sheet music, and make it a guitar piece that follows this original version as close as possible. The first chord of the chorus is Am6, then, I have come up with this chord from just sounding out the notes to the piano version. Does anyone here know what this chord would be in the context of this song in Am. The sheet music calls for an E7 and maybe this is all that is needed to describe this chord.

TIA,

Ken

I've had bad hand pain over the past six months, so bad that I quit playing after it simply hurt too much to play. It all started when I practiced every day for half an hour, not too much I thought, but the constant use of hand and fingers to find chords that stretched my hands in new and unusual (not normal for me) ways took its toll on my tendons and muscles, or at least it feels like that is what happened. Now, after stopping playing for 3 months my hand feels better but the 4th finger still hurts to play. the rest of the hand is doing much better, I'm learning to just cool it and not play through pain.

I'm posting the video of my hand position while playing so maybe someone here who is an expert can tell me if my position is wrong. Anything you can add or see that is not right could help me discover how to get back to playing the guitar daily again.

I do think I need to stop playing for another month or two so my 4th finger can come back out of pain. The rest really does help. I have tried ice packs but rest does the best to heal the problem.

Thanks for input,

Ken

I'm looking at the Fender Sonora. I want to stay with fender, just because I'm in love with my Stratocaster. Has anyone else run into this situation: my flat top acoustic, as beautiful as it is, no longer is the style of guitar that I am making headway with. I'm taking lessons on the Stratocaster and want an acoustic that has the same exact neck. either I should trade in my flat top classical and get something I can use, or I should just leave things as they are and go through only being able to practice when I hook up an amp to the electric.

Any thoughts on this situation?

TIA,

Ken
