Hey buddy Welcome to your thread
Let's see what we can do to improve things improvisation is a long journey - the same as learning how to speak fluently and natural in a foreign language, being expressive and truthful!
Tell me, have you ever done any ear training exercises? And please let me know what lessons from GMC are you working on at the moment
all the best
Cosmin
AWESOME, THANKS!
Ok, beside my warrior tasks in ben's guitar bushido temple, I'm working on ben's vibrato odyssey - lessons.
When I grab my acoustic I'm doing sinisa's acoustic arpeggios.
I didn't have any professional ear training excercises, I just did some silly pitch recognition games I found on the internet..
Well, yes.. it's a long journey - let's start
Good morning there mate!
In order for things to evolve in a healthy order, you should be able to know your neck and be able to talk about notes on the neck not numbers tabs are good in order to make things simple when communicating over the internet, but in a real situation when you're talking to someone with an instrument in hand, speaking in terms of notes will help A LOT!
My recommendation would be to start with this series:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Improvising-Workshop-1/
and in parallel do ear training exercises and we should start with this one:
- find a note on the neck (C for instance, on the 3rd fret, A string)
- play the C note and immediately after it, a D note
- play the C note and then SING the D note and play it again on the guitar, to check if it's accurate
Try this with the other intervals around C (D was it's 2nd) see how accurate you get when singing. Once you can sing a note, it means you internalized it and you can sing it again -> that's the first step to being able to recognize what you are singing and being able to lay down on the guitar, the stuff you are hearing in your head. Pretty lengthy process but it's worth EVERY minute spent!
What do you think about this?
Cosmin
What I think about this?
That's great and I'm starting right now!
Man, that would be really awesome.. but we should start with easy ones - even for those I need some time. So nailing down 4 lessons a month + guitar bushido temple + time for my new goal to become a more musical ear (I reserve 15mins a day especially for this) will be tough. Just give me a lesson to start with - I'll post my progress on that particular lesson here, until you say it's ok for a REC..
GoGoGo
We sould start with rhythm.. I'd like to go more into lead when my ear is more trained - hope that makes sense..
Ok it does make sense, as I think a good rhythm player can become a good lead player much easier
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-guitar/basic-metal-rhythm/
this one - it may seem easy, but that's why I want you to chug your way with it as smooth and tight as possible let's take it from here and see where we are please take a look over it, practice it, till you feel ready, record it and let's discuss on it
Of course, it's important that you also like it so the fun level will be greater
Like it, very basic stuff, let's rock!
Ok so far for the REC-take.. currently I'm just struggling a bit with the fast power-chord to open-chord changes in the galloping section.. But I'm isolating and fixing the problem going to upload a take for you to check next night!
hey cos, i did a few takes with some parts that are too sloppy - I will record another take this night for you to have a look at it!
OK - that's the best of the last 10^5 worst recordings.
I'm still struggling with several chord changes, muting etc.
Need more practice...
Update on ear-training: I'm able to sing along the c-major scale. I did this: played the major-scale on the 5th string starting on the 3rd fret and tried to sing the note I'm hearing. stopped the note ringing and checked with a mic-tuner, if I'm really singing the correct note
then I started to increase the intervalls starting from C while singing the notes. Then I did the same but I sang the note before I played it.. it turned out quite easy after a few minutes. Then, I started to play all the chords in the C major scale and was able to sing along it - that was quite an amazing experience, never did that before (don't know why - everyone playing an instrument should do that )...
So, I'm making some progress
In my Metal Metrics 4-REC Ivan said, for rhythm I should make my right hand more floating. I thought, I give it another shot and keep an eye on that, this is what I got..
And yes, I'll continue with the intervals, let's see where I'm going from here
Next lesson please
Definately! So , I'll prepare a take on that one and afterwards my galloping should be more in time, then I'll do another take on marcus' lesson and hopefully have two recordings for the REC
hey man! just a short update: got the new lesson up to speed, just two parts need to be played a bit more tight
love the new thread titles
Hehehehe yours was raised at the net and ready to hit as they say in volleyball glad to hear that and looking forward to seeing what you have prepared
ok, that's not my best take - but the best recorded so far.. will try a better one tomorrow!
OK, here's my best shot for today
I'll keep working on that, but now I need a new challenge
Clearly a lot smoother than the previous one now, this one will help you work out your note separation skills
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-guitar/I-got-rhythm-guitar1-drop-d/
what do you think about it?
Cosmin
Thanks! Do you think I can post it as a REC? I'm not aiming for a 10, but it'll make space for new stuff (or do you think it won't pass?) - I'll keep practicing though.
The new one looks fun, too. Will give it a try and let you know!
This is a first take with just the first two patterns.. thought I share my progress so far for today.
Here we go..
Your mentoring and Bens Bushido Temple is motivating me kickasswise - next one please
Oh yes - octaves - always like the sound of them.. getting right to it!
Man, these fast octave shifts are challenging. But got it down @85bpm so far.
I'd like to do one acoustic-lesson per month as an additional assignment - do you think that's OK?
Though we should start there with a simple one, too (I'm still struggling with Sinisas Arpeggios to bring it up to speed and sound good and in time ). What do you think?
Good morning!
Here's a take @full speed, so you can see my progress on the metal rhythm lesson. Far from perfect, but I think I'm getting to it soon
Maybe I can make another Take for the acoustic lesson
(http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Acoustic-Arpeggios/) later. I play that one on a steel-string guitar - would it be OK, even for REC?
Thanks!
I tried to record my acoustic-take but there seems to be a problem with the audio hardware. I can barely hear the acoustic guitar in the recording, but the input levels are all on max
This is my hardware: behringer C-1 mic into m-audio fast track pro usb.. I'll try to figure out what the problem is, or maybe I post it here in the forums..
Morning!
Here's a take @ 70bpm recorded with my webcam - still got probs with my mic.
At full speed it gets too sloppy, so I still have to practice.
What do you think about this so far?
Hey Cos! After the v-chat yesterday I thought maybe it makes sense to do a funk-lesson as next assignment - what do you think about that?
BTW at weekend I'll try your timing developing excercise mentioned yesterday - looks promising
Oh yes.. will give it a try for sure!
Alrighty let me know how it goes
Hey maestro! I wasn't able to practice the last couple days, but today I'll come back to it and post a few takes soon!
OK, here is another take for the octaves-lesson:
And here is a first take on the Funk-Lesson (well, the original is @ 80 bpm, but the downloadable backing is @ 100bpm...) but I just give it a first try.
Funk_Practice.mp3 ( 1.27MB )
: 148
Thanks! Yes I'll put some more time on this today and upload another take, what do you think about my take on the funk-lesson? Can we start another one or should I put some more time on this, too (well, to be honest - it's a boring lesson )
Alrighty - do you have the 80bpm backing for me (that's the original lesson speed I think)?
jaja.. another take for the Octaves-lesson:
Do you think it's OK for REC now?
I want to post another take for marcus' rhythm lesson soon..
okay!
phew, man.. this take is the chunkiest i have
I've tried several positions, until it got too 'muddy', hope this take is OK..
Id' like to have a new lesson suggestion
That's something you as my mentor must say
If you say my rhythm playing is good enough to move to lead, then let's go...
Thanks man! The next one is really tough, this will need some time.. but: I'll log my progress accurately and post a report in your 'how fast are you' -topic this time!
Good Morning!
I uploaded another take into the REC for Marcus' lesson yesterday to get some more feedback on that.
Just wanted to say, that I continue working on that lesson, until I record a better take..
Then I have to record 2 takes for Ben's guitar bushido ;P . Will start the new Rhythm/Lead lesson afterwards!
Edit: Just realized I played one part wrong the whole time (Video Nr. 5, I played octaves instead of power chords)!
Hey Cosmin!
Just wanted to let you know that I'm still practicing the funk lesson and marcus' rhythm lesson, will upload the takes soon!
OK, here's another take for the rhythm:
Do you think it'll get a better grade than the last one?
ok - just preparing a new one.. if i make 10002 takes, at one point i don't recognize a slightly detuned guitar anymore ....
mh.. every take today is getting more worse than the one before
i switched to the funk lesson to bring up some variation - will try again later....
here is a first take with some altering rhythm at the end:
http://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/funkyrhythmtest/s-HYCgF
some muting issues here and there, but I think I'm getting close to have a feel for the funky rhythm....
I won't get any better like this
between all takes I checked the tuning and it was fine..
dunno if this is getting better than 8 for REC...
what do you think about that 'funky' take?
I think I'll now start with the wallimann-lesson..
And instead of funk I'd like to switch to your metal metrics series - what do think about that and with which one I could start? Btw: I love your Katatonia-style lesson!
Hi Cos!
Thank you for your feedback! I already had a take on the metal metrics 4, but it wasn't that good (well, got a pass, but I wasn't satisfied).. I'm going to discuss a new take with you asap - to get that 'massive as a mountain'-sound ;P
Regarding the Wallimann-lesson.. I struggle with every lick between the rhythm parts just need some more time to get a descent take.. maybe I post a little progress containing the first 2 or 3 licks just for you to check, ok?
Hi Cosmin,
sorry, didn't have that much time to pick up my guitar in the last weeks..
But I just started again with your metal metrics series, and here is my 5th take for nr. 4
I'll post one for nr. 6 in the next few days.. I'm struggling with the arpeggios but the rhythm section is recorded
And the first licks in that Wallimann-Lesson are on the way!!
Hey mate! Welcome back your timing is very good but I think we have to focus a bit more on the articulation, k? The bends are a bit under the tone, you should also focus on the vibrato - it has to be wider and you could get awesome results if you would put your wrist to work are you accustomed to this concept?
Let's develop this
Cosmin
I think I'm hopping into the Bushido Temple again to accomplish the current Apprentice Task
After doing a take on this one, I'll come back with another take for MM4..
Hey mad! Ok, I'm here if you need me in the mean time
Hey Cos!
So I did some practicing with vibrato and recorded another take for your Metal Metrics4 Lesson:
Oh - my 1st string is missing in this recording.. just snapped while tuning the guitar to drop c
Mad! Welcome back man I was wondering what you have been up to Mate the recording is very good - you have a very tight palm muting technique and tightness is yours to command! Now, the only thing you could do even better, would be the vibrato which could be wider
So how's life man and what shall we do next?
Cosmin
Well, as always: family business and work
Thank you for your feedback - I just watched your recording for this lesson and yes - if I have some time left today, I'll do another recording with a wider vibrato (I think you mean the ones played in the very first 20secs?). And what do you think about the tone: put in some more gain?
OK, what to do next... occasionally I meet with two other guys (drums and guitar) just to jam. We're trying to combine sludge and djent style, so maybe continuing with some odd time signature / djenty lessons would be great..
Maybe these:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Djent-Time-Signatures/
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Katatonia-Style/
What do you think?
Okay, here is another recording (audio only this time..) I tried to put some more energy into the vibrato..
http://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/metal-metrics4
Whoa hey maaan I am honored that you chose these and I want to thank you for the nice words you posted
We can get to them, now that you have the 7 string ready and I am sure you'll do a hell of a job!
Regarding the vobrato in the new recording - it can still be improved man! Check out how Zakk Wylde makes it sound - I was inspired by him for this riff!
Cosmin
Ha - so I go for this lesson regarding my vibrato and bends workout
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Wild-Bends/
Ah Ok - it was just confusing, because the GP-file is saying 135bpm and the backing 100bpm... and the backing is 13s longer than the main vid... but I just listened and compared to the main vid and it's at full speed - sorry
So I'm at 110 bpm for that middle djenty part. My subscription just ran out, I can resubscribe in a few days and will ask Bogdan for the 75bpm backing to make a first recording of me playing this lesson.
I work on the Katatonia style lesson, too. For this I'll use my Zoom to switch between the three sound effects while playing... that's something I have to work on...
Howdy mate great to hear - now, if you want to get a grip on switching effects while playing - I got a few suggestions:
- learn to tap your foot against the beat of the song - in that way, you will know on which beat the effect change occurs and just stomp on the switch at the right time count and you can't go wrong!
- first change the actual tone (clean, crunch, riff, lead) and after that the effects - delay, reverb etc. - if you are using stomp boxes!
Looking forward to your takes man if there are any questions - I am here to help
Cosmin
Thanks for your suggestions, I'll try this!
Here is a 75bpm audio only recording..
I'm not very satisfied with the tone and i didn't change any effects... but just have a listen
http://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/djenttimesignatures75bpmtake1
Marc
Mate, you still have some issues on the rhythm after 01.18 - you are rushing a bit and it feels out of balance. Try to get a better grasp on connecting with the drum track and this can become a great take
Cosmin
Yes I'll work on that!
I still have issues to bring that lick up to speed - any suggestions?
I try to do another recording with video, maybe you can see...
Hey Cos, small update on the Djent-Lesson: I isolated the riff with the timing and 'speeding up' - problem and recorded a video for you to analyze:
Hey there mate timing is good, but I would like to see a little bit more definition from you
I think it's a very good idea to isolate all riffs like this what do you think? Let's go for it and I am certain you will get more from this lesson by doing so!
Cosmin
Ok, good idea! I'll do another recording with the last riff to isolate this, too.
But what exactly do you mean with more definition?
Ah, I see. Will keep an eye on that with the next recording
Okay, here is another take for the two riffs isolated:
It still can be improved, but maybe you can tell me some more details on what I have to keep an eye on..
And maybe you can give me some suggestions on what I can do to get a more djentish tone
Marc
I'm using TH2 with Todds Djent Preset (http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=44968) and adjusted the noisegates... I think getting a better tone would improve the groove. What do you think?
So, his is the gear I'm using to record: Guitar -> FastTrack Pro -> Cubase5 with TH2
I also have a Zoom G2.1u, but it's difficult to get a djentish tone with this one..
Hey mad Well, I have no experience with the TH2, but I can tell you what I am doing with my AMT - lowering the bass to about 8 o clock and playing with a less distorted tone while hitting the strings pretty hard to get that chunk going.
A good tone will always help out indeed. If you are using Line 6, I can help out with some really good tone presets which will utterly provide THAT tone
How's practicing with that groove going?
Cosmin
Goes fine ... I feel like this guy here:
So, I played around with my Zoom and got a quite genty tone (I think). I used the Peavey 5150 sim with lowered gain and less mids and added a noise gate.
Here we go:
Hey mad! I likethe tone it sounds pretty authentic you know about the second riff, you are delaying the Bb note after the A and this is why it's a bit out of the groove try and feel the drums a bit more. Can you sing the guitar part over the backing at full tempo?
Thanks!
Yes I can sing the second riff at full speed and now I know exactly what you mean
I'm playing the whole lesson almost at full speed now - the first riff is still giving me some trouble at full speed, just a little more practice time....
I'll upload a first take of your Katatonia-lesson soon!
Marc
great man! Looking forward to see the takes - you have to convince me with this one as well
Hey Cos,
Just a short update: to be honest, I think to get the djent lesson clean and up to speed I need another month or so.. I'm getting close, but it seems to be an endurance problem. When I play the first riff slowly up to speed, it works great, but when recording a few takes it gets more and more sloppy and out of time so maybe you have an idea or another lesson to practice similar techniques?
The Katatonia lesson is going well so far (except the last riff - it's a bit tricky..)
Working on your Djent collab tomorrow!
Hey mad! Glad to see you back into action
Regarding the Djent lesson - give it time and try to use a certain anticipation technique - always think a bit ahead and be aware of what's next to be played - in this way you won't let the flow get interrupted by the fact that you are not prepared to move your hand consciously. It is a bit difficult to explain in words, but it's all about anticipation - do it at a slow tempo first and then incorporate it in your habits for anything you will ever play
A lot of stamina loss comes from the stress of not being aware of what's next and becoming tense because of that - I may be wrong and in your case it might be something else, but still, this is a good approach
You could try Metal Metrics 2 although it's tougher technique wise - but it's a great stamina exercise nonetheless.
About the Katatonia the last riff is my favorite! Try to tap your foot to the ground and work on the time signature change, by playing the riff while tapping 8th notes with your foot and when the 4/4 kicks in tap 4/4 It works awesomely for the whole pulse!
Looking forward to seeing your take for the djent collab and please go ahead and ask me anything else you'd like to know
Cosmin
Yeah - I'm already using an anticipation technique in all of my playing - I really think it's a stamina problem and more practice of course..
The MM2 Lesson is already on my agenda - I suspected you'll recommend this one
I can say I like all your Metal Metrics lessons and I'll get into the No. 2 asap - is it possible that I can here some clipping in the full backing track for that lesson?
I'll try tapping the foot while practicing the whole katatonia lesson
BTW - your collab is the first for me
Thanks!
Hehe! I am honored to have you break the ice with the collabs mate!
Clipping? Hmmmm, dunno man, I'll check it out and see...
well, don't know if you call it clipping - it's a clicky noise appearing at about 28s in the 100bpm backing.. but maybe it's just normal...
And there seems to be an error in the tabs for the Katatonia lesson (in the tabs below the video and in the gp-file): in bar 6 and 10(tabs below video) it's played 0-5 instead of 7-5
Okay, back in action..
So, I was just before giving up to even try to play the Djent-Lesson at full speed. Until today.. I received a parcel from Thomann containing a .68 elixir string that replaced my current .60 on the 7string.. and voilà :
It's not perfect, but it's a start playing your drop-A monster at this speed
Now continuing with your Katatonia-Lesson
Marc
Hey mad!
I see and hear progress! The first part and the one resembling it (the one that makes the link between the main riff and the verse riff) are perfect! Now - the main riff has good timing but you are not playing a few notes as defined as they should Take some more time to perfect this one and the verse riff is still a bit rigid, it needs to be more synched with the drums and groovier. I suggest more slow practice and trying to understand the verse groove better - try to sing against the drums if you have the riff in your head
When will I see a recording of the Katatonia style lesson?
Thanks
Jaja - that verse riff is quite difficult to play slow with a groove.. I'll give that another shot after recording a clean and slow take for the Katatonia style lesson ... this weekend!
If I can make it to your V-Chat today, would you mind to play the verse-Riff from your Djent Lesson (very slow) for me?
Hey Cos!
After weeks of non playing guitar I decided to start all over again.. with very simple lessons here from GMC. I realized, that even level 2 lessons were quite hard to tackle for me (in a more enjoyable performance, if you know what i mean )
So I picked a few lessons from Gabriel and recorded them. This trained my ability to switch between effects while playing, too..
I'm going to do more advanced lessons soon - especially your new one
I'd like to do some theory with you, too.
What do you think?
Marc
Hey Marc! Welcome back man! Which new lesson are we dealing with - the one based on using modes?
What theoretical aspects would you like to discuss about?
Cosmin
Yes: Modes of the rising sun
I'm going to put some lighter strings on my Epi LP.. then I should be able to practice the whole lesson with all its bends for more than 5 minutes
Regarding theory: You might ask me anything and I have to answer.. just to test my overall music theory knowledge..
Ah - and in my last REC takes Gabriel mentioned timing problems in some spots.. maybe you have some simple practicing routines to improve this
Thanks!
Alright! So, until you get the lighter strings, let's see what we can work on, regarding theory
Let's consider we are in the key of D minor - can you please tell me what parent scale does the D minor/ Aeolian mode have and can you please harmonize it using 7th chords? And can you please tell me how we can modify the structure of the D minor scale to transform it into the D dorian and then the D Phrygian modes - what parent scales do these have?
Hope I haven't bombarded you too bad
As for timing, I got just the right thing for ya - check out this thread below and tell me what you think - would you be available to record a riff of your choice, using the tracks attached here?
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=41914
Cosmin
Definately! Will give everything a try right now
OK, theory first:
Hope I'm not absolutely wrong here..
Parent scale of D minor/Aeolian: F Major/Ionian
Harmonized F Ionian with 7th-chords:
F7, Gmin7, Amin7, Bb min7, C7, D min7, E min7b5
Transformations:
D Aeolian to D Dorian: playing major 6th instead of minor 6th
D Aeolian to D Phrygian: playing minor 2nd instead of major 2nd
Parent scale of D Dorian is C Ionian
Parent Scale of D Phrygian is Bb Ionian
Now I grab my guitar
Okay..
While playing I realized some problems in the wider empty spaces in the track. So I decided to play a few times using a click track behind. I played about 4-5 times with that method, and I tapped my right foot to stay in time. Then I recorded without click (only a pre click before recording starts) and this is the first attempt:
It was a huge difference, and it was a really cool feeling to be in time after the first larger spaces
I realized that sometimes I play a little bit in front of the beat - especially in the very first measures...
Hey Marc!
I think you did a great job mate The only observation I have, would be the fact that we are dealing with BbM7 instead of Bbm7 there, in the F Ionian
Now, for the playing, I think it's going good! You need to become more balanced, but since this is a 4/4 simple track, you can work on those skills, by simply interpreting the riff a bit. You can slack or go a pinch faster to give it some dynamic! Anyway, you tend to hurry because you are scared not to stay behind But if there's no actual rhythmic landmark, when the silence bits come into play, your internal clock is the only one working here - this is the whole purpose of this exercise: Adjusting your internal clock to various grooves and timing situations where you must rely on yourself only
Shall we try another one? And regarding theory, it seems to me that you can handle this stuff pretty well - is there anything specific regarding theory which troubled you, or you had not understood?
Cosmin
Yes, another one!
Regarding theory I would say, we just leave it.. when I have a specific question I can just ask
By end of the week I'm going to change strings and then you can expect a first take on your modes lesson..
I'll let you know. And I'll try to record Gabriel's lesson over your drum-track.. let's see
Here is a first recording of the rhythm section..
http://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/sets/cosmin_timing
This is a set of two tracks, the second contains the recording with more empty spaces..
Marc! Congrats man! I think you did a fine job Now tell me, how does it feel? Are you relaxed or not?
Thanks
I'm very relaxed and it feels very natural now. I use to play while tapping my foot since a few days, that really helps with the internal clock..
I just started with another lesson from Gabriel and this time I try to especially keep an eye on timing..
Is there anything else you think I should do to improve timing? Maybe another lesson that contains (easy) phrasing.. just to see if I get the notes played in time?
I'll do, I'll do and I really like your new collab Will see, if I can come up with something interesting..
Well, that wallimann-lesson is another hard one for me - I'm not into fusion playing, and these chops are quite hard to copy, even at a slow tempo..
I just looked at this one here: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Improvisation_High_Low_Contrast/
I think it fits better into my playing style and level.. ok with that, too?
Today I played the first bars of your 'modes of the rising sun' lesson. I played with the slower backing, fiddled around and created some bend/pre-bend-licks of my own just to get a feel for it.. was fun!
And - as you now - I like to grab my acoustic once a while.. and playing your new 'violins and hybrid picking' - lesson is awesome!! I never played hybrid before (just only pick or pure fingerstyle). Will see if I can make a take for you next week..
P.S. there is a bug in the tabs for this lesson: Part4, bar 3 (it's played 5-4-0-3, 5-4-0-5 but in tabs : 5-4-2-3, 5-4-2-5)..
Hey man! Go for the High Low Contrast lesson It's a very good one and if you like it and I also look forward to the Violins and the Modes lesson. Man you got some work to do
Please tell me, what tab were you referring to?
It's the tab for the Violins & Hybrid Picking - Lesson (both - under the video and GP)
OK, as discussed by PM, here is just a small preview with my progress for your deftones style lesson..
http://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/deftonesstyledemoforcosmin
I'm still not satisfied with the tone..
Hmmmmm, I think that the riff tone should be a bit brighter - it's a bit dark at this point but the playing sounds pretty good to me. The only thing I'd observe is that in the beginning you need to be closer to the balance in the original piece Let's hear the whole thing
I think I found a brighter/crunchier patch for the riff, will give that a try later today. I'll keep you updated, thanks for your feedback
btw: I'm still on your Katatonia lesson - the last riff is tricky for me
Hehe - I hear you
Few weeks back I remember situations like in Ben's 'guitar recording frustrations' video while playing that part.. And I think: How can one develop such a sick and unplayable riff
BUT: there will be one day when I can play this one and then i am the riff master in my mad rhythm corner
Anyway - here is the whole thing:
Would that get a REC pass?
One thing regarding soloing.. I definately need some really easy solos to start over again.. Maybe you can give me your suggestion for one that's playable for me. atm even a level3 solo won't get to a point where I'm satisfied with the way I can play it...
Good day hombre! This take is very good and it can go in the REC. As an ensemble you got it rolling, but there are tiny details which need attention
- the lead part needs to be smoother - you should use slides when making transitions - in that way and with the aid of the delay, it will sound even more like a vocal line (at least this was my intention, on emulating Chino's vocalizing with the lead lines)
- you have some hesitation moments in the lead part
- when playing the 5/4 riff, you should be more confident and tight and also don't use the left hand when playing open strings. Mute using only the right hand
About the lead playing in general Hmmmmmmm... Let's give this one a shot, shall we?
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/aeolian-lead-beginners/
What do you think? I chose it because it has a lot of bends which are fairly doable and they will harden you for what's coming
Cosmin
Done!
Will give that Wallimann lesson a try tomorrow - let's see
I tried to play the lick in the second video and for the last two hours and it sounds awful!
It's just too difficult for me to play that "Bend/Prebend-Release Pull-off - and another bend" - thingy... without sounding like an absolute guitar noob
I think I need to make another step back with lead playing?!
sorry just giving it another try and will upload a progress video asap
Man, this is really hard work.. even if it doesn't look like that
Here are the first 20 seconds..
There were takes with a better vibrato, but my fingers are really burning now..
I'm far away from playing like I want it to play..
Not bad Marc!
Anything involving bending can get nasty, so I totally understand ya now, mate I think that you still have some work to do regarding the way you bend - be a bit more direct, don't wait to reach the pitch, otherwise the bend will sound slow somehow Hope I'm making sense - bend round enough to make the note sound good and precise so that you get the desired pitch!
You can DO IT!! I'm here to assist and we'll take it to the end Also, watch out for the timing as you were a bit lazy in comparison to the drum groove with the last phrase
Cosmin
Hey Cos!
As already discussed, here a test-recording (first minute) of your meta-lesson.
Maybe you can give me some tips for my tone, too..
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/days-of-confusion-meta-1-min
For improving my soloing skills, I decided to switch over to Ben's Epic Metal Beginner Solo and try to play it with the same expression regarding bends and vibrato.. will upload a take for you to look over asap..
Marc
Wow Hey Marc! This is good mate!
The one thing which you can do about the clean tone is to make it brighter - it is too dark at this point and it doesn't push through - maybe turning up the highs a bit?
Also, during the muted riffing in the verse part - let it ring and just palm mute it You are currently stopping it with your left hand also and this takes a lot out of its weight
Let's see the rest!!
Cosmin
I'll work on a few more parts today and take care of the tone and the muting. Maybe I can upload another take today..
And I resurrected the metal metrics4 lesson, I'll upload another take for you to look over today
That one bugged me in the past and I know I can do this lesson better.
Another one (sorry ) is it possible for you to show me how you play the verse riff of this lesson (http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Djent-Time-Signatures/). I'm not sure if I play it right, and in the video section I can't figure out the correct playing
Thanks!!
OK, here is the take for MM4:
Mpfh - always that vibrato
Will upload vibrato only (suppose it's the one on 3rd fret 6th string you have in mind..) tests for you to look/listen over and hope for some tips on that....
Meta is so much fun to play! And yes - I'll let you know!!
Marc
OK, just did another full recording..
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/mm4take2-2
I think that's just all I have to offer now (with my guitar)
See you in the v-chat (I try to check in early, because I have loads of guitar-work to do atm )
Good morning there my friend!
The vibrato is still small and rushed and yes it's the one you mentioned on the Eb found on the 3rd fret on the 6th string - you need to widen it and make it angry as hell!! When I recorded this riff on the Voodoo album, the song itself gave me a Zakk Wylde vibe, so I tried to be as aggressive and wide and big as possible. As you said, I think that your idea with recording that bit while trying to emulate various styles of vibrato can prove very productive - let's go for it!
Cosmin
oh man..
I recently heard some Black Label Society tunes and yes.. that vibrato is killer.. especially those on that 6th fret.
Ok, I'll record that suggested part and upload a few attempts asap!
And thanks again for playing that drop A- riff for me in the v-chat yesterday! That helped to clear some things.. just because I listened to the recordings and the audio in the lesson and it always sounded to me as you played two PM open A's before that first hammer-on lick. And when playing slow it was ok.. but when going faster it still sounds good, but I always got timing issues
Later
Marc
The pleasure was all mine man
Don't rush - that one is pretty nasty and it will take some time and patience to get it sounding tight and in good timing!
Let me know when you got the vibrato take uploaded
Cosmin
Yes it is
I'll upload something today.. I recognized, that doing a vibrato at the lower register, 6th string, works better when I use my second finger instead - is that ok, too? Or is it kinda cheating?
OK, here's a small demo with a loop of these vibrato-parts (without backing):
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/mm4vibratotest
Edit: Just recognized that you're using 3 fingers to get that vibrato.. will give this a try, too
So that one should match it quite close, what do you think?
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/mm4vibratotest2
No, no - thank you for being a nag (the better for me) But I really don't know what you mean
Could you show it to me somehow?? Maybe it's the tone that makes it little blurry, too?
Cool! How about today @ 7pm GMT?
Uh oh does that mean 9 PM My time?
Yes.. and 8pm my time - too early, or too late??
That's perfect for me cya
c ya there cowboy!
Thanks again for helping me out with that Cos!
I definately need to work on my wrist vibrato and for doing a decent one on the 6th string 1st-4th fret I need some more strength.
I'll work on this the next days (just to get that strengh and so a better control) and after this I'll post the result, OK?
To keep you busy, too ( ) you'll get a take on your meta lesson asap
Cheers
Marc
Good morning Marc! Hope I managed to help out on the matter and I am waiting on your vibrato takes as well as the Meta rendition We will play on the 31st of January at the Metalhead Awards, in Bucharest and I can't wait
Oh man - wish I could be there
I started with that vibrato at the 5th fret and working my way down to th 2nd - if that makes sense
This night I'm going to search for some nicer tones for Meta, too - hope I'll find some ...
Ok, here's another update on my works on your song/lesson Meta.
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/meta3minspreview
I can't seem to get that tone for the clean part brighter than it is right now.. spend too much time on tweaking the tone, better spent that time on getting the octaves-riff tighter .
Now that riff that comes next will take some practising time
Hey Marc! This is great man! I think you are on the right path, but you should pay a little attention on the following:
- the riff tone should have less highs
- the overall guitar volume is too loud
- there are some small tightness issues when you perform the subdivisions in the chorus riff - 16th notes and 8th notes together in the main riffs
- slight de-balancing here and there
Focus a bit more on these and you can make it shine! BTW the clean tone is MUCH better
Cosmin
Thanks
Glad you like it - in a final mix I'll do some mastering, so the volume will fit more the overall mix, but I'll check the highs for the riff tone.
And now... back to practise - riff tightness and Zack Wylde bending
Marc
Edit: (quick share )
Hehe - yes, I use 3 presets on Bank 4 especially for this song
And it's fun to switch them while playing along - it works quite well now (got the a-ha effect already while switching between effects when playing your Katatonia-lesson a while ago )
But you're right regarding the overwhelming number of possibilities of the gt-8. I'm struggling my way through it, too. I'm using a program called gt8-master. With it I'm able to have all the parameters and the signal chain in a quite simple view and can change them easily... but it's still overwhelming
Last night I practised to play the Meta-riffs tighter and got that heavy riff at 70% of full speed (btw that's another sick one )
Yeah - he's the man I saw you both in a mozart rocks concert video you provided some time ago (I remember a wmv-file). You both did an awesome job!
That last video (prs with mesa test) got me
Because I'm ordering this one in a few days:
http://www.thomann.de/de/prs_se_custom_24_ts_trem.htm
I'll give this prs a test-run, maybe it will replace my epihone lp
whoaa NICE!! You have to try it first, but I have a hunch you won't be disappointed
That's the mission I'll try this one with my equipment at home for a few days.. if there is a problem I can send it back
Ah, and don't get me wrong - I decided to order this one a few weeks back already but Cezar's video reminded me to look if it's still the 11th when this guitar will be available
I'm sure Jessi's killing me for this...
I hope so
Ordered yesterday, because 90% of the next delivery from PRS Thomann is getting on the 11th is already sold!!
I'll do the next Meta-recording tomorrow night
Hey Cos, just a short update - weekend was full of non-guitar-playing time
But today I was able to improve the speed/timing of the riff I have problems with and did a few recordings on AP-exercises for Gabriel.
I should be able to make the next recording for you within the next two days
Hey Marc, no problem mate, ah, the thing we call life got in the way Yeah, I hate it when that happens - you make a plan and then all of a sudden the phone rings and it's dad on the phone, not giving a darn on what you have to do and he needs I dunno what - he could get it himself at any time you know... That's what usually happens in my case. One of the little disadvantages of living in a big house with the whole clan
nice one - but yeah, something like this always happens
OK - so I'm isolating a riff, that's still a problem to play clean up to speed in your song 'Meta'. I'll do a recording for you today and maybe you can have a listen
cya - and next time - don't answer the phone - here we usually have a clan-member right in front of our door to get in to 'destroy' our daily plans
Here a quick recording @ 90bpm. I played along the gp-file:
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/nastymetariff-90bpm
I need to increase by 2 bpm steps and work my way up to the 146bpm
I think these are 16th played at 146 bpm.. for me that's hard to play clean atm, even a few notes.
Will do so
recording will be done later today!
Okay.. here is the crystal clearest recording I have for you with 80bpm and from worse to 'better'
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/nastymetariff-80bpm
oki! I'll try to record your suggested take in a few minutes
okay, here's another take. I extracted the best section
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/nastymetariff-t2-80bpm
Great! I'll try to upload another take tonight
Oh - tone should stay crystal clear??
Saturday night - I've got some time
That's my best take so far @ 90bpm (I increased 2bpm a time just to get me there.. )
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/nastymetariff-t3-90bpm
That's gonna be a looong way.....
Hey Marc, it's a long way indeed man I know you probably want to play it faster, but trust me, slow is the way to go
Take care when playing the hellish lick, you are chocking some notes
Will do so
And yes - I'm choking a few notes sometimes, but it's quite hard, when you play that riff 15 minutes or longer, everything works fine with that tempo - but when you press record ...
Are there any other practice-routines you can recommend that I can combine with this?
Thanks! Will have a look at it and post something soon
Aye!
I'm currently working my way through the first 8 measures, until I can play them absolutely clean at 70bpm..
Making a recording for you asap
This sounds great! I like this lesson a lot - learned it myself I kinda of made a little personal quest out of trying to play as many Muris lessons as possible
Awesome! What are your favourite lessons you learned/want to learn? Are there any other Muris lessons you can recommend me (maybe I make a small list for let's say this year )?
Wow - much work to do
Who's rushing?
You're right - the year is still long
Here is my first take for Muris' lesson:
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/apw-take-80bpm
I tried to play it slow but very clean. The shapes are quite unnatural for me to play.. every 2bpm raise is a struggle
I always have to start at 40 bpm with 2bpm steps just to achieve that tight and flawless playing (if I can call it like that ... )
Hehey I think you are faring pretty good so far it sounds A BIT shaky - yes, I can sense that But work hard and confidence will be felt all over!
OK Cos, let's resurrect this
First you'll get a full recording of your song META..
META_take.mp3 ( 9.33MB )
: 102
Well, part8 isn't played well and like the original - still need to work on that fast run, but I'm getting there.. Also a few timing problems here and there..
I want to get more into soloing skills and I'm currently working on this lesson by Emir:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/neoclassical_solo_for_beginners/
Will upload a first take for you soon..
Wow dude Totally love it!
Aside some small imperfections (a little rush during the chorus for instance), I think you nailed the feeling of this tune perfectly I will want to share it with the guys as well and we will place it on the Facebook page, if you agree with it
Can you show me a video of that nasty lick in the breakdown? It's the only thing left for this take to be pristine!
And Emir's classic! I can't wait to see this one in your take
I also have another idea - will you be up for making a YT video while performing Meta? It's no rush or anything and only if you wish to make it
Thanks man! That really motivates me to continue practicing the tune until it's perfect
I've planned to shot a HQ video in a studio as soon as all parts are played as perfect as possible for me.. that may take another 2 weeks. So a final video should be done mid september - would that be ok for you to share this one on FB then?
I can play that nasty lick clean at 75bpm, so I'll shoot a video for that today for you to take a look
Hehe, Emir's neoclassical piece is killing my fingertips I use 9..46 gauge, but those wide vibratos in the lower register always force me to make a pause for a day when practiced 30min or so
OK, here is the recording with 110bpm:
and here is another one with 120bpm:
nastyLick120bpm.mp3 ( 1.53MB )
: 81
No prob - I want to do this - it's just that it's worth when I'm able to play a whole song - and the studio is right in the neighborhood - just for the video
I think I know what you mean - I'll give that approach a try and record another vid for you today..
OK, here are a few vids for you..
Well, I'm getting closer eventually
Hey Marc - I can see improvement The idea is that now, you need to focus on definition - you basically nail about 3 tries out of 6 - can you play the lick at 130 BPM 3 times in a row with full definition and punch?
The more approaches to this idea you will try - the better you will become C'mon, it' would be a shame to let this little lick hold you down from playing this tune perfectly from A to Z!
Here you go
metaLick130bpm_consistency.mp3 ( 794.21K )
: 86
I've tried to play it along the original backing at full speed (146bpm) and managed to play it clean once.. so I'm getting closer again..
I do!
Sent you a PM regarding Emir's lesson
And I think I'll nail this lesson quite soon, too - what do you think so far?
Yeah, I'll focus on that in the next take, which will be a complete one
I'll record another take for the META-Riff today, yesterday I reached the 140bpm mark and played it clean all the way
One more thing I'd like to start with: learning to play and sing whole songs with my acoustic.. do you have any recommendation on which song(s) to start with (easy ones)?
Great! Today I'll make a list of 10 (easy) songs to work on for the next months
OK, here's the list..
- GooGoo Dolls: Black Balloon
- GooGoo Dolls: Slide
- Foo Fighters: Cold Day In The Sun
- Incobus: Drive
- The Verve: The Drugs Don't Work
- Staind: Outside
- Foo Fighters: Stranger Things Have Happenend
- A Perfect Circle: 3 Lybras
- Fleetwood Mac: Landslide
- Coldplay - The Scientist
What do you think - manageable?
And here is a MetaRiff-recording @ 140bpm
MetaRiff_140bpm.mp3 ( 670.85K )
: 100
I'll dare a full recording for part8 tomorrow.. seems that I'm getting close faster than I thought..
Perfect
I can play Black Balloon, intro/verse of stranger things have happened, Landslide (incl. solo), 3 Libras, intro/verse of slide, the scientist
Had an attempt at Black Balloon some time ago..
I think a full recording of META could be expected mid next week!
I can only play them on guitar, but I was able to play Black Ballon and sing (some passages )
Ha - will try that - never made a recording of me playing and singing - not sure if I can post this here
You're right - of course
So stay tuned
Hey Cosmin!
I saw your latest post regarding ear-training and I'd like to work on this tune
Alright! Marc - in order to begin, I will make a vid to speak to you a little about how to approach these situations Stay tuned!
Here we go:
Awesome!
In the meantime, here's a fresh recording of the full solo for your latest collab for discussing:
https://soundcloud.com/mad-gmc/unmaskingthedrama-gmc-collab
Questions
1st: how do you like the other parts, is there anything I should improve/play differently (tell me - I won't be mad at you )?
2nd: That arpeggio at 1:20 .. something is wrong, but I don't know what...
3rd: When starting to improvise I always tend to play without knowing what key the backing is in or what scales I can use.. so 90% of that 'solo' is just the result of fiddling around - that's fun but takes lot of time. I'd like to play more confident when improvising any tips here?
Thanks
Absolutely!
Because I like this backing very much I'd like to develop more ideas over it and discuss them with you here.
I'll try to bring that arpeggio into a more sweep-like playing to 16th@120bpm.
Ha - and I just saw you did an edit on your last post with a vid! Will watch that now!
Deal
So here is a first try.. few wrong notes in the end.
I did everything from scratch by ear.. what do you think?
Good morning
Today I wanted to play over that collab backing-track again and develop some new ideas. You wrote that theory will help to find a/my direction. Could you explain a little more so I can include that directly into my playing? Thanks
Thanks! It's so nice to hear those words from you
I'll tackle the next part and keep those slide-notes in mind
Here's the recording I'd like to use for the cover of META:
FinalTake.mp3 ( 9.33MB )
: 110
Can't wait for the vid
Just polished the things I recognized, here's the recording:
DOC_META.mp3 ( 9.32MB )
: 107
Sent you a PM regarding music-theory and other things
Hey Cosmin
Just wanted to let you know that the scheduled plan is working great for me so far! Today is theory day
I'll record the video in the next days - but you're somewhat right - I'll put some time into that riff again to play it more defined, maybe it works out without messing it up
Awesome waiting!
Thanks Cos! I absolutely know what you mean and I can remember that we already talked about this topic in our thread some time ago.. and I'm already adopted it to my learning routine
Well, the thing is - playing at slow/med speed is no problem and everything is in time and defined, because I know what comes next and what to play.. but when I speed it up, I always reach a point where I have the feeling that there is no mind .. my fingers are just doing their job. There are AP-patterns I can now play at 90bpm, 16th notes that 4 weeks ago weren't possible for me. And I think it 's not anticipation any more then.. it's just muscle memory. Well I think so..
If you want to play let's say something around 180bpm with 16th notes what you used to play at 120bpm and your current speed-barrier is about 160bpm - is it really anticipation to get you to the 180bpm?
Same with riffs - I can play them clear and defined at let's say 90% of full speed and to get there, anticipation helped me alot! But to get those last 10% - there must be something different and I don't know what.. but what I know is that it often takes a lot of my time
But it could be that I'm wrong here and don't get the point/misunderstood something..
Good evening
Here's another recording of Emir's Neoclassic solo (full version)
I practiced 1h again and this here is the last and best recording so far (my left hand feels like one simple clump now).
There are two wrong notes and some articulation problems but I think I'm getting to it..)
2ndTake.mp3 ( 2.75MB )
: 99
BTW when I have this one in my pocket, I'll continue with my work on Crystallize - so I can have both: aticulation/technique and ear training
Those funk v-chats are awesome! Can't wait for the next one
I was somehow sure you gonna like that conclusion - video idea so you'll get one tomorrow explaining things about possibilities in soloing over Chords in the key of C-Major...
I took a break for today with the solo and I'll see how it goes tomorrow. As today is a scheduled non-guitar day i got no problem with that... ... well I did few AP-excercises
As I only have two singing days in this house: no I can't sing that new solo
I'll give it a try (playing-wise) tomorrow.
One more thing regarding : If I look back to last week and what time I spend with guitar, I think there should be made a new plan with 2h of time each day instead of 1h.. Maybe there are more possibilities with making progress much faster then.. what do you think should be altered?
OK - now is tomorrow
I tried to play joes solo and it was impossible for me to play in sync with him especially that intro part where he does this pause after the 5th note.. everytime I started to play early or late . Until I started to rebuild the melody in my head while playing, and bam! Got it right everytime
Cool experience - so I use my inner voice if I can't sing it out loud in the future
Good night..
So here's the best recording I've got today for the neoclassic solo
NeoClassicSoloFinalTake.mp3 ( 2.75MB )
: 93
As today is recording day.. here's a first take/preview for the Disturbed-lesson.
I know it's not that perfect though maybe you can give me a little feedback..
DisturbedFull.mp3 ( 3.77MB )
: 87
About the recordings:
The Neoclassic solo could score a 9 in the REC zone right now - as you only overpushed a bend at 0:44 - that's what I can notice at this hour
The Disturbed lesson - around 0:43 you rushed a bit at 01:09 you played something else dunno where it came from but it was definitely unexpected at 01:15 there was another mistake and in general, you should make the palm muting sound a bit more loose - notice how in my take it is not so abrupt? And in the verse part, the vibrato note should be a bit more wide
Otherwise you have done a good job mate - keep at it, aye?
Thanks Cos!
I'll do another take for the neoclassic lesson today and will see if it's better.. if not, I'll just leave it as it is.. time to focus on the other 'lesson' this week
I've got the 75% backing for the Disturbed lesson and work on that speed this week until I get a perfect one, then I'm going to speed up..
conclusion video: you're right, it's a whole lot of work BUT: I think it's the best way to show that the theory part is always learned properly and I can use it in action
So my idea for the conclusion video 'soloing over major chords - the ionian scale' is this:
- short introduction
- show/play the patterns learned that can be used to play over major chords
- play improvisation using the backing provided in the theory page for that topic (playing over C,D,E,A,G chord)
- explain joes solo-idea (no 4th...) and play the solo.
And finally - if you think that's a video that can someone else here can use to learn something out of - you may post it in the other thread.
What do you think?
META-video will be done in the next 3 days
I think you rock That's what I think
Mate, this could be an amazing experience both for you and every other GMC member, so I salute your initiative and I also think that the video is structured excellently, so if it's not too much trouble, go ahead and we can do this routine for every mode so that at the end you will have a great bag of tricks regarding improvising lead lines with modes - how does that sound?
Hehehe I wish, but thanks
Well, the explanations are no problem - the problem is improvising (as always) - can't find anything nice to play. That's finally where I want to go though, but it's still very hard, even when it should be more than simple.
Maybe for the current conclusion-vid I just play the arpeggios/scales or pattern over the corresponding chords..
And as today is rhythm day..
Here's my progress on the Disturbed-lesson:
DisturbedProgress.mp3 ( 3.89MB )
: 87
Need more endurance for this one.. that verse riff is quite hard to play constantly clean when adding those small octave-vibratos. One or two blurrs, 0:38 timing problem and that vibrato you mentioned still needs to be wider. Did I forget something?
The verse part sounds better, but yeah, that vibrato needs to be wider and not choked Also, watch out at the chorus, as you hit the open strings too hard and they sound a bit out of tune.
It's just a matter of time and practice as I see it, so don't worry
About the video - start small as you said, record the patterns and arpeggios and try to come up with a simple theme for starting out One that will feel complementary to patterns, it can even be based on them. But it has to be one which you hear in your head, not complex or fast, it just has to be yours Deal? Try it and we'll take it from there - as I said, a 10000 miles journey begins with a single step, but you need to take that step
So practice I will
As today is articulation-day, I restarted my work on Crystallize again. By now I can play the first minute.. there is a part with string skipping. Never worked on that, so this needs some clearance but man, that's so much fun to play
Video.. I'm definately not able to improvise over that backing.. it just doesn't matter what I play when using the first triad pattern, everything sounds awful.. and there's nothing I can hear in my head for this one. Normally when I hear a backing track I have something in mind that I can play over it (even if it's not that good - e.g. my direction-finding problem). But with this one I can just play the patterns and arpeggios up and down but nothing else..
Maybe I do my own one..
So this week I'll stick with the theory learned so far from my first week and prepare some improvisations over a different backing.
Hey Marc - sometimes, a track doesn't inspire us to build something on it - I know what you mean
If you are willing to build one - make a short one - max 1 minute My goal here is to build your coherence over short distances and expand it as you gather experience. There's no point in trying to tell a long story, if you can express yourself with just 3-4 phrases.
So, make the conclusion vid as you thought and what if you would use the backing found in this link for the impro? Does it feel more inspiring?
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=39243&view=findpost&p=565889
That's it!! I just listened a few secs and started to build something useful
Hey sword master
Short update: I recorded the audio/video parts for all examples for the conclusion vid, just need to record the spoken part again, will do this in the next 2 days.
The next presentations will be up faster then
Needed a few days without hearing/playing music.. don't know why, but regardless what I tried - it was just horrible..
Aye mate - no rushing The idea is that when I don't feel the connection with the guitar, I connect with my sword or something else or with myself. It's good to break the contact with it. That's why I always recommend - one day a week, no guitar It's just like in a relationship, you need to be away from someone to miss them
Well, maybe I should start going to the gym again just to do something else in my own spare time - other than guitar
Anyway, here is another recording for the Disturbed lesson.
Take2509.mp3 ( 3.81MB )
: 162
Still need to get that octave-riff tight and the vibrato on the 1st fret must be heavier, too..
As this is just rhythm guitar I recorded twice and panned 70% L/R
Never ever say that! My mates were VERY impressed with your take on Meta, as well as the guy working at Universal Records that takes care of our digital distribution. So I think you are on the good path!
I think this lesson only needs a bit more practice and it's good to go in the REC zone - haven't heard anything that has drawn my attention - and that means it's ok
Focus on that vibrato there and the octaves and that should be it - panning is also a great idea! How's that Ionian improv going, btw?
Ok, as promised here's my conclusion video for the theory part..
Well, as you can see - that's my first explanation video. So it doesn't look that 'natural'.. the more vids I do the better they get, I hope
I think this one should be the next:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=49755
What lesson would you recommend?
And thanks for supporting my cover of META was lot's of fun to make it
WOW!
Mate - that was amazing! You are thorough and hard working - I think you have understood VERY important aspects and you have with you a few concepts with which you can build further - now it's all just a matter of exploring Things will come in time! I will come back with a video to talk to you about this a bit, because the next level is the one at which you are stuck - the catchy line building. You already played some cool ideas, but you need to find the courage to express yourself and let the music speak instead of the scales - that only comes with A LOT of experimenting.
Regarding the next topic - after you have read the theory, you should take a look over this one - it will give you a grasp on phrasing in the Lydian context

Thanks
I'll keep up the hard work and will try to explore and put some time into it.. but yes, it would be cool to have some direction and your videos are always very helpful, can't wait to see and learn from it
Muris' lesson is absolutely what I need not only to learn something lydianish but to develope my articulation, so I'm thrilled to get to it!
As this is a level 2 lesson I think all instructors are judging quite hard, maybe we could discuss it here before I post it to the REC section.. this must be a 10!
Tomorrow I'll visit a guitar workshop with this guy here:
I'm thrilled about this, too
I have a hard time to play this:
playing those notes with my pinky on these adjacent strings sounds like I'm a total guitar newbie
Any tips how to practice it properly? Maybe I'm doing something wrong
