Great vid! The "Power Amp of the Moment" has officially shifted to that QSC model that he's sporting in that rack (QSC PLD 4.3). For about five minutes, the dejour amp was the MATRIX solid state power amp which is also nice. Both amps are SOLID STATE and both amps are bassically P.A. AMPS!!

The QSC offers wads of customizations via digital control on the front panel and dsp (digital signal processing) inside the qsc amp. Not to mention the qsc provides 1250 WATTS PER CHANNEL to 8 ohms running Stereo. So it's got all the headroom one could need. And zero need to ever replace a tube.

In short, they are the very model of a modern band. Embracing technology in order to make music, and make the tour work. Bravo They also use the Behringer X32 which allows ipad control of the stage mix. No more running over to the mixer for monitor controls. Double bravo.

It's true he's using a processor to a P.A. amp, but they have a killer live sound, as you may know if you've heard them, and they don't have to tote tons of extra gear all over the country including heavy tube amp heads. He's even using 2x12 cabs instead of 4x12. Granted they are ZILLA cabs, which are monstrous, but still. In short, I WANT HIS RIG!

So, they play the same exact show every night, to a click, with the same digital tones as on the album? That's closer to a movie screening than a theatre performance, if you know what I mean.

They ain't the Grateful Dead They are Djent/Prog band pulling off some very complex bits live that honestly benefit from a click track in a club setting. The axe fx keeps the sound consistent. Essentially they are trying to ensure the quality of the show for paying customers. I wish other bands would follow suit to be honest. Improv is great and all, but paying good money to a lousy show cause the band can't hear themselves/drummer can't hear what's going on etc. is awful.

Well, I just think that's not a very professional attitude. They've got one show that they can perform and that's about it, whereas another proggy band like Blind Guardian could pretty much perform any of their songs off the tops of their heads. Or someone like Joe Bonamassa or Ritchie Blackmore (not known for their simplicity, either) would play every song a bit differently each night, even if they rotate the same stlist for like a month. The thing is, Periphery is just trendy enough to pull people to their shows with their names only.

Hmm. Oddly , I have to say I think it's quite professional? But everyond has the right to think what they like It seems unprofessional to do what some bands do provide poor shows by leaving too much chance. If I want that, I'll go see a grateful dead show. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes not.

Joe B is great But they are a 3 piece after all and honestly doing nothing anywhere close to the level of time signature changes etc. that Periph are playing. Not to say they don't change it up and throw in some jazz, but they are a very tight 3 piece rock/blues/jazzish group. That's their thing Periph are a Djent/Prog band pushing the limits of Polyrythms. Not really apples to apples eh?

I saw Periphery once, and it was an OK show, but there wasn't anything that would catch my attention as a non-fan(Does this expression exist?). The other band, Dream Theater put on a much looser show with no click track and more of a "live" feel (though I'm still not a fan of their music)

Btw, I think the professional thing would be changing it up, and still not doing any bad shows. Again, Ritchie Blackmore has no problem with setting up a ballad with a rock beat on the fly, and even if the band plays a few bad notes at first, these things just make a show for me

Dream Theatre is a killer band I'd say all around a "better" pound for pound band but they are not a young band like Periphery so again not apples to apples eh? They have been playing and touring for many decades now while periphery by comparison are yet wet behind the ear.

But I get what your saying You like more of a "live" somewhat loose feel. The Periph "sound" is really not about that though, it's really tight, modern, polyrythmic, prog/djent. A LOT like Meshuggah. Whom they borrow quite a bit from. Speaking of, Meshuggah also play to a click track and use ABLETON to do all their live patch changes. Again, just using technology to achieve consistency amid the variables of touring. I give them both kudos but I also give props to dream theatre who have no need for such things and can play the way they do without a net, without wires, as it were

Liked that video, even though it was a bit monotonous, but, pretty sweet. They pretty much use everything they have. And ''surgical tight'' That was my favorite Everything at their shows are surgical tight My favorite guitar was Misha's Jackson Loved it. Especially when he asked what happened when the laptop went down

And, I guess they're being a bit too professional. Where's the fun part of live shows ? Improvizations But, I'll have to check them out now I saw them covering Metallica's one and it sounded amazing ! So, they must be darn good.
