Challenge Ben 6

Hi Guys. This time I've got a sliding pentatonic lick for you. It's similar to the pciked AP pentatonic licks that John McLaughlin and Zakk Wylde may use except I approach it here from a legato perspective. Or to be more exact, a combination of occasional down strokes, hammer ons and slides. It's played in a triplet rhythm.. 6 notes ascending, 6 notes descending. You can move these shapes up and down through the pentatonic scale any way you choose. You could even jump to even further intervals, not just the next pattern in line. Enjoy !!

Oh man cool.gif I just love how there is so many possible combinations to connect notes. Even good ol' pentatonic !

And those little slides make this lick sound like bit Japanese... tongue.gif

In the process of doing one for #6.
I'm working on the position shift. It's proving difficult for me to get smoothly and convincingly.

Great ! Yes, the shifts can be tricky.. but when you nail a really smooth run it's so satisfying !

Well, my technique on this one is not where I'd ultimately like it to be - but I'm offering it up anyway.

I know it's sloppy and my time is not perfectly spot on (especially the ending 1/2 version of the lick - I rush).
This is definitely something I'm going to be working on - 1/16 note triplets incorporated into longer phrases and lines.

Yes, sometimes I'd run the sound out through the pc.. but a lot of the time you guys were hearing the sound coming through the speaker cab.

For these clips though, it's DI'd into the audio interface as usual smile.gif

Sounds brilliant ! Very cool to hear it used in a musical context, I love these little tunes you do.

Are you using hybrid picking at any point with some of these licks, it sounds like it ? smile.gif

Thanks man. I really want to get the fast triplet thing 'clean'. I'm making it one of my practice focus points (so thank you!)

As for hybrid picking - yes. I do it but in no systematic way. It's just something that's evolved naturally in my playing. I also palm my pick here and there w/o thinking about it.

Glad to hear you've adopted it for practise !

Regards the hybrid thing.. same here. I never set out to do it, it just happened automatically.. there's no rhyme or reason behind what I do either, I just plink and plonk when it seems right biggrin.gif
