Kickstart My Whammy

Playing around with my new axe which has a whammy (still getting use to).
I found out a neat trick others might also enjoy mucking around with. Simple but a little work to get sounding good.

How to make your guitar sound like a "rev up" car/motorbike, the great intro to Kickstart My Heart!

What you need:
Electric guitar of course with a tremolo/whammy bar (I'm using a FloydRose on ESP M-II with neck-thru).
High gain/distortion tone.

1) Hold the whammy bar with your fretboard hand around from under the guitar neck. I found this the best position.

2) Depress the whammy bar as much as possible and pick the low E string, slowly releasing the whammy at the same time.

3) Quickly depress the whammy bar at the end to go back down and repeat. Don't depress it as much on the repeats loops (higher gears), but start pulling it up instead.

4) Takes a bit of time but you can work out the best sound for the gears. Slow or fast and how much to depress/pull. You just pick the open string but can pick a different string like the "A" or "D" string on the next gear, if desired.

Note I'm playing in drop D tuning. Play with bar prebent and release after you pick each note. Complex to tab out as it's an effect, but in the actual song would be something like:
CODE
d----------------------
g----------------------
c----------------------
f--0^------------------
a------0^--------------
d-----------0^-\/\/\/\-

5) Learn the song to go with it (sorry i'm a tad messy in places, was bit slow on changing the effect as well, lol).

All good fun to play and mess around with while you learn (just make sure first to learn to play cleanly before messing with effects)!

Yeah, I loved doing that when I first got my whammy guitar. So your parents finally let you get another guitar?

Yep, it's lots of fun!

I'm using my new axe - ESP M-II Std Neck-thru (it can scream wub.gif ):

Parents let me get it for early Christmas prezzy (out of my own pocket), only issue is trying to play two guitars, lol.
I've also got the standard active 81s pickups, my custom ones still on order, JH Set pups will take a while to get into NZ as they are too popular in American (on there way)!

It's been run thru a PodHD 500, there's CD/MP3 input for the backtrack and direct USB to the PC.

Well what you could do is tune one guitar to a different tuning. smile.gif Like Standard vs. Drop C or Drop Db.

Good idea about the different tunings for each axe, I might do that, thx smile.gif

As for my arcade site, it's a hobby of mine and yeah I got some help with the graphics such as the logo, etc. Spent some money on it, but all in good fun. I've spend ages tweaking and customising the design, picking out fun games. Glad you like it. All free to play!
