I'm still looking for a cool picture of a guitarneck with all the notes on it
I didn't found a nice picture on google yet.
If you have something like that on your machine. Please upload it.

educational poster while contains:

Size 100cm x 40 cm so it while be a panoramic poster

If you have other ideas for the poster or educational picture (diagrams, scales,..) I can use. Please post

Thx Pio Jr.

I'm all for it!
It would be nice to have all often used info on one nice poster.

This is a great idea - I have been meaning to download a picture with the notes and scales but have never got around to finding one. Seems to be an absolute perfect fit to the website - your future ideas would be most welcome!

i have an idea about the poster, I have some kind of a table of keys that I've made some years ago to help me memorize them all, here's the post that I've made some while ago in the forum, hope you find it useful.

QUOTE
This is basically the table with all the diatonic keys. There are 14 of them, because of the way the circle of fifths and fourths work (some of them have the same notes)

In the middle column (column "J" ) you have the key of C major. It starts from above with the note C and goes down like this:

C
D
E
F
G
A
B
C
D
E
F
G
A

pay attention at the color that C note has. It is orange. The C in the row 10 is orange as well. This is the C major SCALE and KEY

The notes bellow the row 10 are going to A which is the last note in the C major column. It is in row 15 and marked with dark blue color. I have done this cause I wanted to have full relative minor scale of every key as well, and because of the intervals which I will explain now.

Now pay attention to the Column "A". There you have the degrees of the scale written down. You have I - VIII from orange row 3 to orange row 10. These numbers tell you what degree are the notes in rows of the major scales to the right.

Now check out the Column "B". There you can see the intervals that notes represent. You will notice that there are interval numbers from 1-13. I've gone beyond the major scale root, so you can easily pick the notes for extended chords.

The next column "C" tells you what mode every note builds within a key to the right. This is where to colors come in handy. I've made this layout:

ORANGE
LIGHT BLUE
LIGHT BLUE
YELLOW
YELLOW
DARK BLUE
GREEN
ORANGE
( and repeating again )

Because the table contains too many notes, sometimes it is difficult to find the right note. So this should help. "Warm" colors build major chords, and "cold" colors build minor chords. Green is exception and it is building diminished chord (Locrian mode).

ORANGE is the root of the key
LIGHT BLUE is 2 note of the key, builds dorian mode, has minor chord
LIGHT BLUE is 3 note of the key, builds phrygian mode, has minor chord
YELLOW is 4 note of the key, builds Lydian mode, has major chord
YELLOW is 5 note of the key, builds Mixolydian mode, has major chord
DARK BLUE is 6 note of the key, builds Aeolian mode, natural minor scale, builds minor chord
GREEN is 7 note of the key, builds Locrian mode, and diminished chord.

This table can tell you quick and easy what notes are within any key you want, and you can stack notes to build chords as well. I suggest printing the sheet in color and putting it on the wall. After some time the colors will enable you to find the right note immediately, and after some more time you will learn them by heart. Since this is practically the whole diatonic scale theory the system is pretty effective.

I have a few things taped to my desk as a learning aid (Fretboard etc) so having this as a poster will be a big help, will you publish a proof for a bit of tweaking first?

Awesome idea mate, really cool of you to help others out in your own time like this!

Years ago I used to have all sorts of learning things on my wall - it helped me then and I feel this will help anybody now ! smile.gif

Good idea !

I have notes of the theory lessons too, which I look into every now and then to keep remember myself by.
A poster could contribute to that !

first overall impressions.. it's great.. there's a lot of useful information, and i would definately have this hanging on my wall once it's completed.. i like the idea of combining all the scales with their intervals, formulas and notes.. and i love the color of the background and the GMC headline letters.. cool..

----
I am not sure i like the font you are using.. seems too "messy".. it might look better as a poster than on my screen but i would recommend using a "regular" type font that makes it easier to read.. (do *not* use times new roman or arial.. laugh.gif)

the circle of fifths is not completely centered on the guitar.. also, try to align the intervals, formula and notes so they are exactly below eachother..

even further into details.. the fretboards on the left side.. the letters B, D and A have whites in them.. also the fretboard on the right seems too mushy when zoomed in.. perhaps fretboard it too low resolution for this size poster? dont know.

last thing.. the chords.. i like the idea of having them, and they seem to fit nice, but these also seem a bit too low resolution for this size picture.. could it be possible to make these yourself in really high res and then scale them down to fit the poster??
------

I know there's a lot of things on my list, and i hope it doesn't put you down or anything.. this is just what i've seen so far on my monitor (and my monitor is not very good), so it might be a lot better on a real poster.. but this is a really awesome idea and i would love to help you if you need any help.. keep in mind i know jack about photoshop or anything like that..

I will make the chords sharper and i'll think I redraw the guitarneck it's indeed low on resolution for that size of poster ;). I also wasn't sure of fonts I used so I try to change it. Thanks for the feedback Zion. It really helps me! biggrin.gif

It seems to me that there is still alot of blanc space to be filled up. I don't have any suggestions right now but I don't think it should remain unused.

Mayby a good idea is to name all the notes with tablature, or some rhytmic examples of any kind (in music notation).

Some other idea is perhaps grouping the chords in a C scale ?
Otherwise, if none of the above, you could still spread the diffrent things better across the poster to get a clearer vieuw.

Just some suggestions, I think you're doing a great job here, and putting in a lot of effort !
I really like the idea and hope I am able to order one soon.

By any chance, I might have missed it, but have you got any idea yet on how big the poster is gonna be ?

Wow, This poster is really shaping up nicely. I'm very excited.

You really did a great job on the guitarmasterclass.net logo!

Just a thought : Could you change the colors of the notes on the C-scale guitarnecks (the small ones) so they match the colors in the intervals table?

For starters, that would be very helpful, because you'll have a directly linked relationship.

You could apply this to all of the poster, although it might be too much.

Edit : mayby you can change the elements of the poster so the chords get position next to the neck, in the place they are actually played!

Edit 2: Get the 'color system' to work also for chords, so you can immediately see out of which notes a chord exists.

Allright, I'm gonna go to bed now....
