There are lots of options around that range. The PRESONUS has a nice sound to it, as well as the apogee. If possible, try a few in this price range before making a decision. The line 6 stuff is a good value for money, but the preamp in it is not quite as nice as Apogee. This topic comes up quite often so a quick search of the forum should yield tons of results. As for recording in general...
GETTING STARTED WITH HOME RECORDING? Here are a couple of links that will hopefully help  here is my thread on FREE software for home recording. In the home setting, getting your guitar signal in to the computer is the crucial bit. You can get really good results using plugins/emulation etc. OF course, using nice microphones on really nice amps in a great room will be better.
