Hi people,I will try to explain more of the chain I use to record vocal in my lesson,and generally recording vocal in Nuendo(Cubase).I use Nuendo 3 with E MU 0404 sound card.

The ChainIt is important to know your soundcard,so you know what can go in(and where),and what is going out.So,I haw a Behringer ULTRAVOICE XM 8500 mic,and from him I use the XLR(cannon) cable to my Behringer TUBE ULTRAGIN MIC 100 preamp,my preamp haw two inputs(XLR and one instrumental,like the end of cable for your guitar).From there,I use balanced cable from preams output,and with him I a m going in to one of the analog inputs on my soundcard(I haw two inputs). That is the main chain when it comes to hardware equipment.
NuendoFirst I am opening new project,and then I am going to controls(F 4),and I need to add bus for the microphone I just plugged in.So,I am adding bus(simply just right click on the Right Input(we put the mic in right for example),and add bus).You can name it how ever you want.Then when we go back to the main window,we add the audio channel(good thing is,that you can make your own key commands,so when I want to add audio channel I simply pres "A").When we did that,in the channel we just created in the settings we make the choice of the bus we created earlier.
Setting the input and output gain on preampIf I sing some thing quiet and I want it to sound "dry",I set my input and output almost to the end,and because I haw dynamic mic,I put some thing in front of me(between me and mic) because the hard "P"(maybe a thin T shirt
).
And if it is a chorus,and I haw to sing some thing really strong I sett the level on the half of the scale(and move a bit from the mic).
You all so need to do that in Nuendo,so your signal dont clip.You can do that by singing the highest and the strongest note ,and if it does not clip,your fine.
