Scalloped Frets, purpose?

Alright, I'm an aspiring Neoclassical shred metalist, and when I made the suggestion in my "Customize my Strat" thread, scalloped frets were mentions as a must for neoclassical playing.

I'm curious as to the purpose of scalloped frets in reference to what they do for the guitarist

yes its probly better to do the top frets before u do the whole neck and my not like it
