Heya Muris, smile.gif

I was working on string skips and finger independence last night, when I came up with a little bit of a finger twister. I then spent a while developing it, and turned it into an etude. I tried to write it logically so that every bar adds a slight variation to the fingering pattern, (to develop a good workout). However, the more I play it, the more I wonder is it possible to play at speed. Could you have a look and see what you think. At the minute I'm practicing it at around 70bpm but it starts to sound right at around 120. (Which I can't play at present!!)

I also tried it as swept arpeggios, but I couldn't get the right accents on the beats (as marked on the top line) so it didn't sound the way that I wanted it. (It was easier to play, but who wants easy? huh.gif laugh.gif ).

I've scored the first part of it (the second part is unfinished yet) onto this powertab file here: (The original finger twister lick is the first 2 bars).

Cheers biggrin.gif

Size is ok,no worries, perfect for my poor eyes biggrin.gif cool.gif

Etude seems really interesting, you came up with some cool ideas
regarding to skipping and fingering smile.gif

You said it well,it can be played in many ways and sweeping is surely one of them.
And it can be done more easily with changing fingering a bit but that's not the point,as you said. wink.gif

I'll try to record it both with alternate and sweeping to see what do we have here,
can't promise in which tempo tho but will do my best here cool.gif

I stuck with it last night mate, and put in 3 hours practice on this piece (it seems so much easier to not get distracted, with music that I've written myself (?) smile.gif ). I've got the piece up to 90, and actually it sounds quite groovy at that pace. And as an added bonus, my fingers are certainly gaining more independence, my little finger is working like a monster, and my alt picking 3 nps on adjacent strings is improving.

I've also finished the second part. But I'm going to keep that to myself, and if I manage to nail this, I'll video myself playing it.

I'll be interested in seeing what you make of it. It's beginning to feel "normal" under my fingers, even though my intention was that the fingering wasn't normal. Thanks for taking time on it biggrin.gif
