Hey guys! As I said in Pixies thread, I'm studying and creating lessons to continue with the Indie Rock series... these days I have been learning many Sonic Youth songs to get deeply into their style and create a tune that reflects their style. After some hours of dealing with really strange positions and shapes I started to think that maybe they were using weir tunings for their songs... and the answer was: YES! smile.gif
I think that they are one of the bands that experiments the most with alternative tuning...

Here you have some of them:

E A D G B E

E A D E C D

G G D D D# D#

F# F# F# F# E B

D# D# C# C# G G

G G C C A# A#

A A E E F# A

F# F# G G A A

F# F# F# F# E B

F# F# C# C# C# C#

D D D D A A

C C E B G D

A A E E A A

E B E E A B

A C C G G# C

and my favourite since it says GAB in the beginning... smile.gif
G A B D E G

I will call this one "The Gab Tuning" hahah and will experiment with it! It's used in this song..

Well, isn't that obsession for the Alternative Tunings??? smile.gif

In this link you can find the tuning used in every song of them... most of the times the two guitars use different tuning in the same song! smile.gif

Great info guys! I'll check Chris Whitley music! I knew that Placebo song but I never checked the tuning. Do they always use this type of tunings? We can keep on posting alternative tuning songs or bands here.

always liked this photo tunings on guitar

he put a sticker on the guitar for the tunings. If you change tunings 10 times during a show one of that stupid robot LPs would be good.

hahaha it's true! he could solve everything with two Gibson robot guitars. While he plays with one the assistant sets the other one's tuning. But I think that his magic would be lost in this way...

My favorite tunning is definitely DADGAD which is mostly used in percusive guitar, I really love it.

Which tunning is used in Kashmir by Led Zeppelin? Do you guys know?
