I've moved to Canada for a year and stupidly didn't take any of my guitars with me. Now I'm looking for something in the 400-500CAD range to keep me going. I'm looking at the Ibanez SA260FM at the moment as it's pretty cheap and seems like a decent guitar. I'm not too fussed about the pickups, as long as they're fairly decent. I would just change them when I got back to the UK anyway. I just thought there must be someone on this forum who has one. What can you tell me about weight/feel/how well it stays in tune etc.

Also I may as well ask about a decent (if there is one) 20watt (ish) amp.

Thanks in advance.

that guitar is fine however,

since its like a back up guitar,

why dont you buy a high quality used ibanez guitar?

for the price you can get a MIJ ibanez guitars with better sounding pick ups that might out play even your main guitar!

as for the amp

Blackstar ht-5 tube amp

good sound, good practice volume, good overdrive...you will like smile.gif

a guide on buying ibanez guitars can be found in the wiki, same with the review of the blackstar ht-5

My SA260FM seemed like a good guitar. It still seems that way when I pick it up, it feels right in the hands.

But it's not.

The SA falls in their current shoddy quality range and for the same or less money you can get a better ibanez from ebay. I bought an RG a year or two before, paid less, but got an instrument almost twice as good in quality. Heck, I bought a GAX from ibanez 5-6 years earlier for maybe 150 and that was better than this SA260.

Play one for thirty mintues, I suspect you'll be really surprised how unpleasant they are.

Wow! I didn't know you didn't like it that much! You got that about the same time as I got my RG and I know what you thought at that time!!

Duncan, seriously look around for 2nd hand stuff for that price, you could find a decent RG or Schecter, Carvin any number of alternatives!

Cool, I'm put off the SA now already! I'd rather not get an RG though as I've already actually got one at home. I basically want something with a nice low action, thats not too heavy and easy to play as well as sounding decent (I'm not too picky I know!). I was only really going with Ibanez because they're familiar but would be open to other suggestions. I could maybe take a trip down to Vancouver once I know what I'm looking for.

Since you are in Candada, look at the Godin guitar. They are made in Quebec and are pretty cheap in Montreal. They are awesome guitars. I don't know how much they sell it in BC..

I've had a quick look and there's a lot of models. Any in particular you would recommend?

Also I've been looking as ESP and they seem to have a lot of nice stuff. Any model recommendations?

It is hard to recommend one in particular. They are pretty different depending on the tone you want to get... I really like the LG Models and The Prestige...

I've just received my deposit back from my old uni house so I may even be able to spend a bit more. The Godin Velocity certainly seems nice.

+1 for the Godin Velocity... looks great

And I just realize it as the HDR switch so you can alternate between active and passive pickups..

Also the Blackstar HT-5 looks good but it's a little pricey. I'll probably only take the guitar back to England with me, so don't want to be spending loads on an amp. Especially if I'm going for the Velocity.

Think I'm pretty much set on the Velocity. I've heard nothing but good things and it makes sense to get a good guitar that I can keep. Rather than a crap one I'm just going to get frustrated with.

In terms of amps though I was thinking 15watt, and marshall, as I've liked some of the smaller amps I've played on before. Any other help though would be awes, ta.
